It's a good job the Ukrainian gov hasn't tried implementing democratic socialism, the US and NATO would've probably already invaded the country themselves. The IMF would've also been warning about further loans to Ukraine being at risk due to Ukrainian policies aimed at improving the lives of normal people.

No, that was to my summer home Croatian address. Although I guess, viewing it from Florida, there is not much difference, Slovenia, Slovakia, Slavonia, even we get confused sometimes and before you know it, there is a war on. And I do use ex-Yugoslavia's recent history to better understand the Ukraine situation. It's very close to Serbia-Montenegro dynamic (go and read Putin's recent essay on Russia and Ukraine, RP) with some elements of Serbia-Croatia and Bosnia relations. Plus of course, Russian history, what happened in Ukraine during the October Revolution and in WWII.

Dunno how anyone can have any sympathy with the Russians given that they basically unleashed chemical weapons on British soil, killing a British citizen and then basically laughed it off.

Putin is already up on this situation, he’s shown that “the west” doesn’t exist as a homogeneous entity anymore and is just a collection of countries with common borders but different agendas. Germany refusing to send any troops at all . 
 

 China must be watching with interest, apparently they are making overtures to Argentina suggesting  parallels between the Falklands and Taiwan.
