Russia v Ukraine

Must admit that I understand this war less and less, it would appear Ukrainian chiefs of staff should be opening champagne after it became clear Russians are pushing to actually take Kiev, this should be right where they want them. Instead of making Ukraine defend the demarcation line with the separatist, than annihilating them with superior long-distance fire power and pushing with the elite of the elite forces to take all of D and L, connect it with Crimea and take Odessa. And then using the defeat to topple the government, get concessions.

And how are Ukrainian troops "stretched" all of a sudden, if they are 300,000 strong, defending against less than 100,000 Russians? Isn't stretched exactly what you want when you are fighting superior force, you can then attack their flanks, their supply line, instead of being pounded by the spearheads.

What is with this insanity of delivering 18,000 ARs to civilian volunteers, and talk of petrol bombs? Don't they have 700,000 reservists, many of them supposedly battle-hardened veterans? Why were they all not called up days or weeks before? And who fights with petrol bombs? Why are there no roadblocks, why is Kiev public bus apparently still doing its regular line, instead of being parked across the street? What is with all this civilian cars driving around in the middle of a battle? Is this going to be the first war when the invaders have more problems with traffic jams than the defending army?

Why is NATO now talking about delivering air defence systems, when everybody knew that was where the Ukrainians are most vulnerable and disadvantaged.

And why are those fucking national guard soldiers on Guardian's time line taking up a position in the middle of the road where they are the most vulnerable instead of setting up a proper anti-tank road block and taking fortified positions in all those huge concrete buildings behind them?

It’s scary what’s going on right now in Kiev. Anything Is possible. Putin has gone mad, denazification implies horrible things. He’s not afraid to tell ludicrous lies to the whole world.

I don’t know if he believes his own lies about Ukraine being run by a bunch of nazi under drugs leaders.

it seems He thought the country was going to collapse with people welcoming the arm bringing freedom and peace. Ukrainians have never been so United and so anti Russians. It does not make sense, even for him.

I think Zelensky must be some kind of a Russian player in all this, nobody is that stupid. He is now actually agreeing to meet with Putin on neutrality. actively killing battle morale of his troops: He does not hold regular press conferences with updates, projecting the image of someone who is in control. he instead walks around filming himself on his smartphone looking nervous and talks about how he is the number one target, as if Ukrainian soldiers are dying on the battlefield to defend him. Who cares about Zelensky? And after all this shambolic war preparations, whilst talking about the West creating unnecessary panic. What an idiot. I don't think he will be Russian target number one for much longer, there may be other interested parties, much closer to home.

Point taken, but it would be a stunning outcome if an agreement could be reached.  Probably highly unlikely, granted.

Yeah, the sooner this ends, the better I suppose.

I can’t believe it’s actually happening
