His father and team (rightly) thought stepping into a Dortmund team creating boatloads of chances (similar to RB Salzburg) for their striker was a better way to raise his profile further than a Utd side lacking creativity and structured attacking play. Wise decision, even ig he would probably look better with Pogba and Fernandes playing behind him.

Maybe a United player destroying his Dad's career had a part to play too?

0 goals in three internationals for Haaland, opposition being Gibraltar, Turkey and Montenegro. Safe to say he'll be longing for naive Bundesliga defences and Reus/Sancho/Hazard to provide him with service.

Even Messi would struggle to shine in this piss poor Norway team.

Hmm

The myth persists, though, that Keane not only injured Haaland, but also ended his career. It's not true. Haaland finished the game in question and also played half of a Norway friendly four days later before racking up 68 minutes of Leeds' next league game.

Looks like he retired with persistent problems with his left knee not his right knee that Keane twatted.

I think it was more to do with United not wanting to put a release clause in his contract which would explain our lack of interest also. I’m guessing he has a relationship with Mina Raiola as he does tend to like to squeeze a few moves out of his players before they land at their destination clubs.

I've said it previously but I genuinely don't see Haaland moving this summer, unless there's some sort of catastrophic financial fallout at Dortmund if they fail to qualify for the CL next year. He's got a release clause of €75m that kicks in next summer against a market value of probably double that, along with a fat fucking leech of an agent. This season clubs would be willing to pay £150m on him, but Dortmund would want most (if not all) of that. Next season clubs will still happily shell out £150m on him but Dortmund's claim would only be to half of it; Raiola can get a bigger pound of flesh from the remainder.

Haaland's being managed carefully - Raiola knows he's onto a winner with him and he's trying to strike a delicate balance between getting him to one of the biggest clubs, but making sure there's enough moves and paydays before he can command his biggest price and wages. He's also controlling the terms of those transfers to make sure there's as little money as possible going to the clubs that develop him as a player, and more left over for his lard budget.

One for the shitness of modern football thread probably: player careers being stage managed for the benefit of agents rather than clubs.

Sounds a lot like the James injury Virgil inflicted.

A source saying he played for Leeds, when he actually played for City might not be the best evidence.

And even if the tackle first hit the right knee, the left knee was also hit.

Urgh.

Although I just can’t see clubs spending god knows how much on Haaland this summer when he is available for £65m next summer.

Dortmund wanted £120m for Sancho last summer, surely they’d want more for Haaland?

I’ve not seen enough of Haaland comment but would his link up play be of the required level for Citeh? Or given the fact he’d score an absolute bucket load, would it matter.

The way Kane’s game has developed, I think he would be great for them, unfortunately. I also think he’d great for us.

Oh right ok. But Haaland did still play on, it was a different knee that made him retire that summer because of persistent injuries to it and Keane didn't 'end his career' regardless.

Can't understand anyone who would want Haaland over Mbappe.

Haaland looks amazing, he'd be outstanding for us (or City) and will score goals wherever he goes. But, important as that is, it's all he does - he doesn't add anything to the buildup or defend from the front. Mbappe gives you basically the same scoring record while also being amazing in the buildup and isn't scared to press, either.

Mbappe has regressed in the buildup in the past few years. Lots of stepovers for no reason, slows the game down by trying to beat players 1v1, not very creative with his passing.

Although, most of that can be fixed by him going to a club that isn't a joke and that has a manager that had the authority to tell him to cut out the nonsense.
