I don’t think it’s a Liverpool thing with the Beatles. They’re the most popular band the world over. I think there is a bit of that with The La’s knocking out Forever Changes and Cosmo’s Factory though.

Some of it may be familiarity with the music if it’s local, It’s not uncommon for bands to have a strong local following. Courteeners can sell out gigs with 50,000 people in Manchester, Gerry Cinnamon similar in Scotland.

I don't doubt all that, but surely not every record The Beatles made is better than every other record?

Of course they're not. Nobody has ever said that.

Imagine someone saying Magical Mystery Tour or The Beatles For Sale were better than every other album made by any artist other than The Beatles.

I suspect you're taking the piss & I've misread the situation again.

I know. But the theory is, there would have been even more Beatles albums if people could have nominated more than one from the same band. And so far, unless I am mistaken, all of their albums that made it are routinely going through unchallenged and it seems they can only be knocked out by each other. Which is I guess why Stig wanted not to include them.

I expected them to win, as they would have won the bands tournament but such supremacy of all of their output is interesting.

It's not ALL their output though.

Their albums up to Rubber Soul are not as highly thought of (generally speaking) & would've likely gone out to your Rumours, Dark Side Of The Moon-type 'classics'.

OK computer and Rubber soul for me, was close and a very tough group. Not surprised surprised OK computer looks to be getting eliminated but a shame. Is the Bends still in this?

It's in the next group Rem.

I'd say its the 'quality' of their opposition that is making it relatively easy. I'd never have guessed we'd have so many heavy rock/metal fans on here as well as more obscure bands too. Albums are a difficult one though given most of them have so much filler on them.

But most albums in the competition are classics. Hardly any obscure stuff in the first round.
