I think we just got promoted back then and United were the established top team so we weren't really rivals at the time. Shanks and Busby were good friends too and Busby was a former Liverpool captain so there was hardly any  animosity then.

Remarkable really coming so soon after Munich.

 

I'm too young to have seen him play but any player who wears our shirt and puts a shift in deserves our respect and our gratitude.

Correction, it was almost 60 years not 50 since we last had a player transferred between United and Liverpool. Long may that continue.
