I think the ref blew up early in the 2007 champions league final as well, when we had our tails up having just pulled a goal back.

He did. There was time for one more attack.

Yeah I think that happened. There are a few other occasions I have seen when refs end an half or end the game a few seconds early.

However, what makes this Man Utd one unique is the fact that we had an attacker running through for a potential 1 v 1. The ball was already being chased by Mane. Refs in that situation always let the attacking play get completed. Even when the minimum time initially showed has been reached.

Don’t think the question is even open to comment now. I’d look to a European breakaway league. Also stipulate no PL refs allowed in it.

That penalty is something I’ve hardly seen before. A player sitting on the ground, being kicked in the back of the head, gets penalized. Unreal.

It’s astounding. But in some ways we should thank him. In fact, I’m beginning to think that both his decision and his ‘review’ at the monitor were deliberately done to let us know that they have been told to fuck us over. Because it was so ridiculously blatant it was unreal.

i stupidly found myself sitting up thinking, "surely he'll overturn that"

then quickly saw sense and sat back into my chair, knowing what was to come.

fucking disgraceful performance by the ref the whole game and the penalty just put the cherry on top for him. useless fucks

Then penalty only added on to what had been another incredibly biased referee performance against us in the Premier League. It's beyond a joke now.

Hopefully none of our supporters take it out on the team and Klopp, as they are doing their best in completely unfair surroundings.

It was nice watching a fairly officiated game in midweek. Back to the usual crap today. 2 clear fouls on Salah ignored (with that utter twat Tyler instantly piping in about him trying to buy it on the first one), Thiago penalised for a fair challenge when he won it back in a great position in the second half, and then that utter farce with the penalty at the end. Every single time they get told to go and look at it this season they've ended up reversing the decision. Today his mind was already made up that he was sticking with his joke of an original decision. He looked at it for about a second. It almost looked like it was too much effort for him to even turn his head and look at the fucking screen. I don't know what the reason is, but there's a definite agenda against us this season. I don't care how crazy it sounds. There too much evidence to just ignore now.

When he booked Mane:

He shrugged when Holgate grabs hold of Mane

Blows for the foul when Mane did the same back

Books him when he points out the lack of difference

Why do we seem to have a ref from Manchester EVERY game?

A proper league of elite European clubs is the only way forward after what has transpired this season. I’m not convinced we’ll be allowed to finish in the top four anytime soon even if we do get everyone fit and go again at a higher level next season. There has to be a scapegoat for the behind the scenes talks earlier in the season, and it was never going to be Manchester United.

Get it going or fall behind permanently.

That is exactly why VAR was introduced.

That is exactly why we know it is corrupt.

It’ a like Dave said in a match report the other week - it’s death by a thousand cuts. We’re all over them and Salah gets taken out on the edge of the box - cunt waves it away. Two or three other moment in and around their box when we could get something and we don’t. Salah and Mané can’t get a freekick at the minute. It kills momentum, gives the other team a massive lift. In the first half just before Kabak got booked Mané gets taken out on the halfway line - should have been a booking and free kick to us, instead our player gets booked and they get an attacking free kick.

The pen is just a fucking disgrace. It’s beyond absurd. I think there was bias in his mind one when he gave the decision and pride in his head when he didn’t overrule it. Wanting to be the centre of attention. Wanting to play the big man, which gets you success in this league.

Just seen that knob dermot gallagher defending the decision to give that pen against Trent. Going on about calvert lewin being impeded by Trent so it was a clear penalty. He failed to say what Trent could have done in that situation considering he was on the ground, lewin was behind him and Trent doesnt have eyes in the back of his head.

So they've changed the interpretation again to say a forward just has to run into the defender and the defender has impeded him?

When did the rules on penalties change so that a player who is clearly tumbling on the ground, doesnt have sight of the attacker and doesnt make a deliberate attempt to 'impede' the attacker, is now deemed to have done so?

And once again, if this is the new interpretation that's going to be implemented in ALL games, I'll look forward to Liverpool being given shitloads of pens. Oh, I see a flaw in this thinking of mine.

Exactly this. If that’s the interpretation and I’m a striker, as soon as there’s a ball into the box a defender’s going to beat me to, I’ll just make it look like I’m trying to get the ball. but really just run into the defender, fall over, and claim I was blocked off.

Yeah, I'm going to stick by my original vote in this one. There's no chance someone with a straight face not supporting Man Utd or Everton are going to think that red card or not is what should be discussed after that incident. The "modern-day penalty" that Rashford got is being glossed over as well, not a word about how he goes down like a sack of shit a second after there was minimal contact. Worst dive of the season. I'm so sick of this shit now that I'm considering not watching any PL the rest of the season.

We have our issues with playing and performing, granted, but the outright biased, lying fuckers that officiate (and review) our games are a much bigger, more sinister issue in my opinion. I think those criticising our performances so vehemently haven't been playing football themselves and been on the receiving end of such performances. It is sooooo much harder to get your own performance right when you are up against 12 men when you step onto the field. Imagine doing it every single game?

I'm not sure of the motivation behind all this (other than the anti-Scouse bias and the fact that half the ref crew seem to be from Manchester). Having watched tons of football live and on the telly for 35 years I can honestly say I've not seen anything like this. We used to get occasionaly shafted by the refs at away games and I've complained plenty of the Mancs during Ferguson's peak years, but this is a whole new level. Those of you watching Italian football in the 90s/00s (or even betting on it) knew that the fix was in in certain games. IMO, the Serie A of 90s/00s has nothing on the 20/21-version of the PL.

Well it works for the Mancs, it's their best attacking weapon.

Gallagher even tried to suggest it should have been a red card, presumably because there was no attempt by Trent to play the ball.  What everyone who suggests it was a penalty seems to be forgetting is that Calvert-Lewin made contact with TAA, not the other way round.

Can you imagine a scenario where a striker is one on one with a goalkeeper, the goalkeeper makes himself big to block an anticipated shot and does not attempt to play the ball, the striker instead knocks the ball past the goalkeeper but rather than attempt to go round the keeper he just runs into him and falls over (think Emile Heskey)?  Are they now saying that this is a penalty? And a red card?

The goalkeeper would be penalised simply for being on the pitch and doing his job.

    • Thats all good, and I agree football died last summer.   But how are we competing with them in this format?
    • Not sure if I get your point here CP.  Do you mean that they were desperate for Saudi Arabian ownership?   I'm pretty sure still that the majority of English fans would prefer the German ownership model (and ticket prices) opposed to the chance that they might get lucky with a billionaire.  The only ones I reckon that wouldn't go for it in huge numbers would be Man City and Chelsea.   But maybe I'm wrong.
    • I will say, it's funny how if you didn't know any better, you'd think people running football we're literally trying to get people to get turned off with the sport.   Russian and Qatar World Cups, the appallingly incompetent usage of VAR and now this Super League. They're doing a great job infuriating people and being even more cunty in a sport that was already run in such a cuntish manner before the past couple years.
    • The amount of shite being posted onlone is fucking hilarious. The wannabe journos from fan shite have taken a rest from XG and other bullshit to post about this. Read one earlier claiming that even if Liverpool finish top 4 they won't be in Europe next year because they pulled out of the European Club Association so now cannot compete in Europe. He's surprisingly not replied to me telling him it's bollocks and pointing out Wolves and Burnley both played European football while not being members.    It's shit, but so is everything in football these days. But just like if the big 6 broke away and invited Everton, Leeds, Newcastle, Villa, Leicester, Wolves, Celtic and Rangers  to compete in a new British Super League they would all change tune and be in straight away
    • The it will kill football thing is absurd. Football is already by far the most unfair, anti-competitive sport in the world with ineffective at best caps on spending and criminal owners. Probably loads of match-fixing too, but yeah, this is the thing that will "kill" football. Shit makes me laugh.
