He's actually just not very good.

Really? I don't know who you've been watching. He looks every bit a talented young footballer. They all go through ups and downs and he's clearly on a down at the moment, but this is the period where we find out if he's a true player or not and reacts to this tough time.

Klopp LOVES Curtis Jones. Nothing to see here.

Why do you think he didn't make the bench this weekend then @m0e ? I find it strange for him to be behind minamino and Chamberlain. I was wondering if maybe he didn't come back to preseason as fit as would be expected, so he's been pushed down the pecking order as some.type of wake up call. Because if he's fit and available, I can't see a situation where you'd sooner bring minamino or Chamberlain on.

I told you, we're too deep. Deeper than the Mariana's Trench.

Jones has probably been left out after being forced out with the concussion thing because Klopp always likes players to have trained fully before being picked in squad for games, and with it being so early in season when fitness levels are still being reached and vary due to way pre seasons are all over place depending on when players reported back etc - he is probably just giving Jones more time to get sorted/fit.

Yes, not sure when the protocol cleared him though. It's fucking bizarre the way some going on about this or that player not being in the match day squad for only the 3rd game of the season.

Klopp can only nominate so many subs. If Jones hasnt been able to train for 10 days and is behind fitness wise, what do people expect? Even if he has trained, we've got shitload of choices for midfield roles so the competition to be in the squad will be the most intense.

That's been answered already, so I won't repeat any of it.

I will add that Minamino is most likely seen as a forward and not midfielder, so he was probably in ahead of Origi.

It's interesting that there seems to be a million different takes on our midfield:

Our best midfield is Hendo Fab and Thiago

We need to replace Gini

Thiago is a flop

Thiago needs to start

Keita is shit, get rid

Oxlade is always injured

Oxlade never comes off the bench

Milner is too old

Milner is awesome

We need to make space for Jones and Elliott

We can't rely on unproven youth

Elliott deserves his place in the side

We don't need to replace Gini

Jones needs to play

Jones needs a loan

Oxlade needs to come on when we need a goal

Keita shouldn't have been dropped

As it stands, Elliott is a starter and the main 3 are fighting for 2 positions. That's before you even consider Milner, Keita, Oxlade and Jones.

We probably need to sell midfielders rather than buy them, and there will be at least 2 in next summer, I reckon. Namely because Milner's time is probably up, and one of Keita or Oxlade at the minimum, will request a transfer.

Nah, he was on the bench v Burnley. He just missed the Norwich game with concussion.

Personally I think they'll just both run their contracts out at this point. They both have 2 years left don't they?

You're right minamino is probably seen more of a forward. But Jones has played in the front 3, as has Elliot, so there's still every reason he could and should be on the bench imo - I'd sooner see Jones on the pitch and either him or Elliot in a forward position than need to look to minamino.

That's a fair shout, but I think if they remain injury free this year and don't force themselves in, they'll ask to leave and we'll seek to sell.

In the main Chamberlain has been injury free for 2 seasons, he had one for the first part of last season and he's hardly had a kick. Keita I see a bit different as he's mainly got games when he's been fit - he's never nailed a place down because he doesn't stay fit for long enough, but he seems to be getting a decent crack. I'm sure it must have happened before and I just can't remember but yesterday was the first time I can think when he's been fit,  had possession of the shirt, had a weeks break and not made the team.
