I met Gary Mason a couple of times Comrade, a nicer fella you couldn't wish to know.

Went to see Noel Quarless fighting Horace Notice at the Stadium and Frank Bruno was there as stablemate to Horace. Nipped down to the front to get my programme signed by Frank and he had gone for a pee so tapped a huge guy on the shoulder at his table and assuming he was a minder politely asked him to get it signed and I would pick it up after the next scrap. Went like clockwork and got a big grin from the guy and Frank as I picked it up but was a bit baffled by two autographs on it , until the minder masquerading as Gary Mason was announced in the ring before the main event.

Gary Mason was a smashing fella mate. He had a benefit do after he retired, obviously he hadn't got much to rub together, hence the benefit dinner. This was a few days before the second Eubank Watson fight and we all know the tragedy that befell Michael after that.

Gary Mason gave all the proceeds of his benefit to Michael Watson's support fund and made sure that nobody knew he'd done it.

Mason is up there with Erroll Graham in that he was a far better fighter than he will be remembered as

Loved the Bomber , still remember how gutted I was when he lost concentration for a second after making Julian Jackson look like he was boxing in diving boots for every second of the previous rounds.

Herol Graham. Great skill and very hard to hit, unfortunately not a very hard hitter and the likes of Julian Jackson only need one chance. Loved the Bomber, but this is still one of my favourite knockouts.

I remember watching that on the night.  Jackson must be in the running for PFP hardest puncher ever.
