Let’s see if it impacts us bringing somebody in.

Edit - Pearce’s latest piece of bum fluff instantly dampens expectations.

You didn't, for a moment think that FSG were going to show some ambition did you?

It’s hard to care what fees we get for selling squad players on when it’s not reinvested in new signings.

Looking on social media it’s all what a genius edwards is. Fans getting excited about us making a profit during the transfer window.

Sorry my expectations haven’t gone that low just yet.

I want to see us buy another attacker before the window closes, absolutely 100%, however, I also want to see the young lads get their chances.

It was only a couple of weeks ago you wanted 2 new signings.
Now you’ve readjusted your expectations to just another attacker.

We’ve started the season brilliantly- nothing changes the fact we can’t rely on the usual suspects of Keita / Ox etc -  losing mane / Salah in an important part of the season due to the Afcon - even if it’s only for 2 / 3 games that’s potentially 6-9 points we could drop in a title race by bringing in Oirgi for cover.

As much as I rate Elliott, I'm not convinced midfield is his best position. He looks far more comfortable on the right of a front three.

Ideally I'd like us to get a proper midfielder who can cover the minutes Wijnaldum put in (Bissouma would be decent). We've got the potential of Jones, the experience of Milner, or the something of Ox, but none can really do the job Gini did, and that slightly worries me. Klopp takes a gamble each season, and this time it's Keita.

Yes, I know. When I worked out the numbers, I’m happy we’re stocked in midfield. We have 8 players for 3 positions. I wasn’t expecting Elliot to play there and look so comfortable.

Klopp said he was happy with his midfield options as well.

We’re only losing Keita from midfield in January. We still have another 7 players.

I do still think we need an attacker. We only have 4 for 3 positions. Origi clearly isn’t up to it. Klopp seems to think Elliot is more a midfielder. Although Ox & Jones can play in the front 3, it’s 100% not ideal.

Our best 11, excluding Mane & Salah, still should be good enough to beat Palace & Brentford.

I’ll be disappointed if we don’t sign another attacker.

Personally I think klopp knows it's pretty certain we'll only bring in 2 if shaq and origi go. And he's looking at Elliot midfield to see how much flexibility he's got to use him everywhere he used Shaq. The spreadsheet might not say yes to the players he wants when there's only a week to go. He'd be a fool to be banking on anyone new now and certainly getting the 2 I think everyone was in agreement we needed as a minimum when the season finished.

The odd thing about our only big signing this summer is that all being well, he’ll struggle to start in big games. Maybe he’ll put pressure on Gomez for the third choice spot, assuming the peerless Virgil and Matip stay reasonably fit. Looking forward to seeing him playing through.

I wouldn’t bet on that.

It's the hope that kills you.

We won't sign a midfielder. We should get Bissouma next summer when he has a year left on his deal. He's great and #PremierLeagueProven.

The attacking signing will depend if Klopp wants to use Minamino. He isn't going to get someone else and have him rot in the reserves. And I won't even mention Origi at this point. It would have to be one of the two leaves as well before a signing comes in. Or we'll sign another 16 year old kid for the future.

I don't know if it's an indicator but Gomez was mostly playing left in preseason with konate right. I do wonder if it's not a question of 3rd and 4th choice, more konate is paired with matip fighting for the right side and Gomez with vvd for the left (and maybe a bit of full back cover).

I'm quite surprised Southampton haven't come back in for minamino. I assume we'd happily take a similar fee to shaq.

How many players in each position do we need? If we sign another midfielder, that’s 9 players for 3 positions.

I still agree with your original opinion we should get 2 players in. midfield & attacker.
In midfield we can’t rely on Keita - Ox - Hendo - Milner (who missed the game yesterday with a knock)

We won't sign someone just because we have currently uninjured players that are injury prone. It was always that someone like Keita or Ox would have to go for a replacement to come in.
