You'd just take a loss on shaq and origi, what's the point in keeping them around paying a few million pounds wages when they're not really wanted and wasting their own careers.

Next year they'll be worth even less.

Because you wouldn't just take a loss in any other walk of life if you can possibly help it.

Taking a loss means you take a bigger loss in the accounts which could mean further restrictions, gives you less money for signings etc etc.

So our only purchase in the window is a £36m signing in a position where we already had 5 players vying for 2 spots. Doesn't this strike anyone as odd?

Not when you consider that Fabinho was our 4th choice CB last season and will now exclusively play midfield. The depth is more balanced this season.

Of course you take losses in other walks of life, most business will cut losses on certain products and services because its no longer profitable or viable. Ive worked for business that have had profitable revenue streams but cut them anyway because they wanted to divert their funds and time to another project. Shaquiri has stated he wants to leave, if in the end he doesn't move because there's a couple of million difference in the valuation it just seems a dumb move not to take it. Money aside clogging the squad with a player who wants to play but won't, who isn't that highly regarded by the manager and potentially stops us recruiting a player who can improve the side seems like a dumb move too.

It's like its a sin to want the club to do transfer business half the time.

Probably a little outside of what FSG's sweet spot has been as it is pretty big dough for a youngster but I think they realize they need to transition to finding talent earlier, like a season or two earlier, without an additional transfer in between to bump the price up.

If his wages are (relatively) reasonable I don't think they'd mind about the fee being a bit rich.  As with Jota, they'll pay to get someone in once they identify them.

Did you miss the 'if you can possibly help it' bit?

There's a difference between a negotiating a slightly lower fee (which we'll end up doing) and just selling for the first offer we get to cut our losses, especially when transfer fee's out are going to be tied to transfer fee's in whether directly or indirectly.

If Shaqiri was playing for someone else and was available for €8m I’d be wanting us to take a gamble on him.

I can’t understand the urgency to get shut of him as the only game I can remember him being poor for us was the 1st half in the Barca 4-0 yet he’s been linked with a move every summer.
