I’d raid Southampton for Ward Prowse. Use Minamino to part-fund it.  I’d bring Ings back in an instant too if he wasn’t so susceptible to injury.

No Southampton, no Virgil or Mane.

More hits than misses as a transfer strategy.

Some of these English players just cost too much money. Grealish, Maddison, Ward-Prowse. We'd never pay up for those guys.

Yeah, we're not paying £70m/£80m for anyone this summer, especially not an English number 10.

Klopp has never shown any interest in signing that sort of player and now with Thiago and Jones I'd say there is even less chance of signing a creative midfielder.

W-PeePee would cost a lot less than Grealish or Maddison. More versatile too.

Stories of Barca being deep in the red and needing to sell in the short term.  Messi's wages are crippling, not least because of the ripple effect for the rest of the players.

We can help with that.

Take Coutinho back.

Still only 28, he's already done the Barca thing, if I was scouting his aptitude I'd see a player who doesn't rely on pace, who is tactically mature, who is selfless, who is a goal threat from set pieces and from outside the area, who is naturally very fit, who thrives in take-ons and tight spaces.

He's also by far the biggest asset of the agency he's signed to, and about to enter into the final 2 years of his contract, which is peak selling or re-signing time.  I don't see Barca giving him a new contract.

A Coutinho/Fabinho/Thiago midfield looks like the stuff of fantasy.  Adding to the Brazilian contingent at the club may then also have positive knock-on effects for Firmino and Alisson.

The age profile and role would fit the role that people want from Jones (I don't, but...) as an understudy to Coutinho in that midfield 3, with Hendo/Fabinho sharing, and Thiago/Keita (or TBC) sharing.

All contingent on the CB situation clearing up, which leads OKs likely with 3 big CBs set to return over the summer but just in case, we could do worse than checking out the free CBs this summer, which include:

David Alaba

Romain Saiss

Jerome Boateng

Aissa Mandi

Nicolas NKoulou

And the question is twofold; do we want a short term option, and do we want that player to cover a full back position if needed?

The older the player, the less likely to cover.

I've often been an advocate of bringing coutinho back, but he hasn't set the world alight since he left us, which is 3 years now. Barcelona will still expect a huge fee because they're ultimately not only needing to reduce wages (although coutinho is far from the biggest problem in that regard), they need to be able to fund incoming players. So it creates an issue where you would expect a fire sale only with the players that earn 400k+ per week imo. Anyone else they probably want a decent fee. So for that reason I would be out. If we could maybe flip him for a keita or something like that, where there's a potential upside for both parties, maybe that's an option (one I'd certainly take) and I'd take a deal that took thiago back there, which might also be good for both parties.

Personally for midfield and attack though, I'd be keen for us to get someone with the profile of Jota who is hugely hungry. We've a squad full of players who've won it all the the game for me here is to push them back to their old levels and I think that happens better with a new threat rather than an old mate.

He wouldn't, unfortunately. W-PeePee's on a deal till 2025 and along with Ings, he's their best player. He's not leaving unless it's for stupid money.

I think we'll be signing at least one English player this summer because the home-grown quota needs to be considered. Milly might be leaving this summer, and we might look to move Ox on too. Of the three names mentioned above, Ward-Prowse is the least likely to make a telling impact in the final third, but his game is the most suited to ours because he's a box-to-box player with a bit of versatility.

£50 mill on Declan Rice as he can play emergency centre half and we can save money on buying a genuine one.

That bit was unintentional!

Nicely dispatched penalty from Red in waiting Ward Prowse just now.

Hearing Jurgen went to see him play and was seen by a member of Southampton’s coaching staff, who asked him if he was looking to buy one of his team’s players.

Klopp said ‘No, I’m just Prowsing.’

‘You know, Prowsing instead of browsing? The way they sound similar?’

It's Coutinho's form that would would likely make a sale seem palatable to Barca, and I understand they still owe us money on the deal.

I'd think we could get him for around £50m considering his status in their squad and time left on his contract.  That's still value for a player like him, at his age, not being reliant on pace.  He could still be top level at age 33/34.

We would recoup £50m through selling Chamberlain/Origi/Shaqiri/Wilson.

While that leaves us short up front in established players, we have a few attacking players in the youth teams who are the age where a step-up would be explored.  Like Glatzel, Stewart, and of course Elliott.

I don't see anyway we would pay 50m for a 29 year old. He was loaned out for about 9m a year to Munich iirc and he has 2 years left. So I reckon the market value is established there - there's no way we'd pay over 25m I reckon.

I really like Declan Rice. I reckon he’s one of the most underrated players in the league. The fact that he can comfortably slot in at CB is a bonus too.

I'd like a midfielder who can run at players, take them on, win free kicks pass and shoot. I really don't want us to sign a player because they can cover positions. It's a bonus but I wouldn't even want it on the list of requirements.

It’s useful to have versatile players as we’ve seen it with Milner and Fabinho. Having said that purely as a midfielder he’s very good too.

I’d rather we signed players who are specialists in their positions and just played them there.

Cant be arsed going back to the days when we got too clever for ourselves and thought we could re-invent the wheel by signing deadbeats we’d have to replace every summer.
