I've never seen a merely good Ligue 1 player with potential get as much hype as Aouar. You would think he was literally Zidane the way people who have likely barely watched him play rate him. He has talent, but he's quite flawed and he's #lightweight.

I think the Aouar ship might have sailed. Probably stayed at Lyon for a season too long. Not to say that he isn't a talent, as he quite clearly is, but he's certainly not taken the next step at Lyon.

 

If there was going to be any kind of swap involved to take Shaqiri to Lyon, then I'd much rather have one of their 2 Brazilian midfielders instead, Bruno Guimaraes or Lucas Paqueta, but I suspect that Lyon would not want to let either of these go this summer.

I can see this happening somewhere around 8-10ml. 

 

We need the squad place and it gets the wages off the books for a player that is fit for a third of the season.

Guimaraes is statistically one of the best midfielders in Europe, so yeah, he'll get a big move at some point, you'd think. 

 

If Lyon need money, Aouar is probably the one they would try to sell as Paqueta is a similar player. But you're right, the fee they would get for him is lower than what it would have been a year or two ago. He hasn't really improved.

Name recognition, doesn't matter how well a player you don't always watch plays, or how he develops, if you've heard good things about them in the past and he's been courted by some big clubs then he'll always be a player your club should sign.

 

Arsenal supporters have been convincing themselves he's the one for a few years.
