I think it's the baseball in them. Success comes in cycles and isn't sustained. It's part of the model to go through periods of transition and rebuilding. Don't ask me why, it just is. You shift your big contracts and rebuild through trades and youth. Just happened with the Chicago Cubs, happened with the Phillies (my team) after they had a golden era and happens with their own Red Sox from time to time.

Trouble is, getting back up there after you rebuild isn't a given (Phils haven't made the playoffs in about 10 years), and that's in a much more equitable system where oil teams can't just spend what they want, blow everyone out of the water and massacre the market for everyone else in the process.

The problem with this idea is we can't afford to drop out of the top 4. We only just nicked in on the final day last season and it took a goal from alisson to get us in that position.

Well you see there's the rub. Across the two  windows prior to lockdown, we spent £16m and recouped £47m. So in some ways we're better off now. Thanks redbird.

We don’t spend big anyway. What was the net spend in the Rick Parry days? I bet we’re not far off that these days and transfer fee’s have become astronomical compared to back then. What we have now are owners that are absolute magicians at grinding out value and maximising potential but they’ll never have us operating at the Man Utd, City or Chelsea end of the transfer market because the money it would take to grow is to that level is far more than they are willing to invest. Spending millions on players we’ll never play just to sell in 5 years time, buying big players that maximise our commercials value, fancy state of the art stadiums just won’t give them the return on their investment that doing the bare minimum whilst running is like a German car factory will.

Summer 2021 will be the same as almost every other year.

  • Probably sign someone very early in the window.
  • People spend most of the window listing our dross/fringe players/permacrocks and values we can get for them.
  • That value is used to suggest players we can sign, the press will also start mentioning those until eventually they are Pearced.
  • Players like Mbappe and Haaland will be continually bought up as potential signings but go somewhere that actually pays transfer fees.
  • Selling Coutinho and buying Virgil and Alisson will be brought up by the "journalists" like Reddy etc. multiple times highlighting our genius.
  • With a few weeks of the window to go Anubis starts the January 2022 Transfer window thread when it becomes clear nothing else is going to happen.
  • The Echo publish approximately seven million articles about our under 10's producing the new Messi and saving us millions.
  • While the above is going on for us, every other team in the league spends way more than us as the Echo and the journalists start alternating their articles between "save us millions", "everyone is fucked by the covid impact" and "we can compete with anyone".
  • The window slams shut and we are in the situation of having 14 or 15 players who are capable of competing and go into the season praying we are light on injuries as it's the only chance we have of being competitive.

In the main, remarkably accurate.

Letting Origi go would leave us even shorter up top, particularly during AFCON. However, I'd rather see Elliott go wide right with Jota and Firmino, than try wringing a performance out of Origi.

Nah you're better off not having a player than thinking you have one but he's actually not arsed.

According to the Echo, Fenerbache showing strong interest in Origi. Althought the English window has closed, it's open to 8 Spetember in Turkey.

What the fuck happened to FIFA \ UEFA standardising the football calendar?

Probably a mingebag loan offer with an option to buy for £4.5m.

They wanted Shaqiri a couple of times but were never willing to pay any actual money for him.

Has a Turkish club ever offered actual money for anyone?
