There was a point in the 2nd half and we got the ball out to the left wing (can't remember who to now) and we just had to go backwards because we didn't have one player in the box. That can happen I suppose at any time, but we were in a passage of play where Chelsea couldn't get the ball more than 40 yards from their goal for ages and we were just playing the game in the 20 yards outside of the box.

Maddening seeing Mo, Elliot & Trent camped on one corner of the box & Mane, jota & Robbo on the other corner.

Ive still got no idea of what they were thinking they were gonna do there

It is IMO. We haven’t had a good enough number 9 since Bobby got injured before the CL final arguably. Midfield, CB and wide forward we’re fine. If we bring a class proper number 9 in between now and Tuesday then it’d be a good summer as far I’m concerned. I also don’t know anyone who don’t think we need to bring anyone in.

You need to pay more attention on here then. There's plenty of posters who see absolutely no issue going with the squad going again.

Mané and Bobby are done at the top level. Covid killed Manés ability to explode past the fullback. He haven't done that in ages. Bobby is just a contract thing, he is not hungry anymore. He's done an Özil, Aubumeyang, Bogarde thing, it's quite obvious.

But there is no takers out there for them, their contracts are immense and they are here for the remainder of their contracts. two years both I believe, ofcourse noone could have predicted it would end up this way, but it's a fact of life and it is killing our budget for a real go. Seeing our inflated wages in the accounts that is clear as day.

Powder is fucking wet. What we can hope for is a player like Doku. The perfect Mané replacement and could get a few games and learn how to finish while we are stuck with Mané and Bobby. Ofcourse our monetary situation is the main obstacle for the rebuild it seems. Mané and Bobby have been great servants, but is there place for sentimentality in football ? No there is not. Just looking back at Paisley he was probably one of the most ruthless of them all. Same was Ferguson. And they both had the money to do it to be fair. We unfortunately don't anymore, but we have to be ruthless none the less. Would Klopp have pulled the trigger on either of them if it was pre-covid times ?

Mo and Luis in the same team for a couple of seasons would be astonishing. He's not as mobile as he once was but he's still a phenomenal finisher.

Always been the perfect no 9 for this team. Fire then ball into him from anywhere and he can control it and turn with it.

Can’t believe we didn’t try and commit them for free kicks or even another pen by trying running at them.

Especially with their keeper and Rudiger both getting booked in the first half.

Mane tried to, but nothing came off for him.

The calls for Mane’s head are a bit mad, scored a great goal last week and finished last season strong. A winger having a slightly off day against a top class, packed defence like Chelsea’s is hardly uncommon. He’s still a top player.

Great goal last week yes. He was in the box nice. That's not the problem with Mané it is his ability to get by players now his explosivness have gone. A Mané before he got covid would have had a field day yesterday. Instead his body let him down whenever he tried something.

Mane's technique has always been erratic despite his overall class and it's caught up to him in the past year. Nowadays for whatever reason, whatever he's doing right is because he has heart and tries really hard, but he's simply become a bit shit at the actual football part.

While I'm disappointed we didn't get the three points and it was a very decent chance to do so with them having 10 men for 45 minutes, it isn't the end of the world. Yeah, it would have gone a long way to laying down a marker this season, but it's a par result from a very tough hole. Top teams like Chelsea are often as dangerous away from home. We have one shit horrible game done and we are a point better off than City.

The huge positive we have learned this season is that Elliott isn't a project for 2 years. He's already looking like an exceptional player.

There isn't a single poster who wouldn't want an upgrade on Adrian, Neco, Keita, Oxlade, Minamio, or Origi

There are plenty who understand that we have 3 issues with that:

1- Having Klopp give up on them

2- Shifting them once that happens

3- Getting the money off FSG to replace them adequately

What more needs be said?

FSG Out?

Edwards out?

Klopp out?

People have made it obvious what their preference is, and it's been done to death.

Going on and on and on about it won't change a thing.

I'm not sure of your point really moe unless you're suggesting we shut down the forum? There's plenty of posters on here who will refuse to see this window as a failure should we not bring anyone else in. But it will be a failure.

The last 3 Summer transfer windows we've signed four players for the first team. Two of them are backups (Tsimikas and Konate) and the other two (Thiago and Jota) have done ok in spells but failed to cement their place in the starting lineup.

We need to sign at least one attacker before the transfer window closes, no excuses.

Of course not, Barry.

I don't know anyone who sees this as a successful window. I see people trying to make sense of it.

On the flip side, I see a lot of noise about the (potential) failure of the window, that adds nothing to this forum.

Just my personal opinion.

The issue i have with having the players you name there still with us and part of our squad is that not one of them puts any pressure on the player/players ahead of them in the pecking order and are literally just bodies who add nothing (and in two of thems cases just bodies who are often broken)

They don't push the starters to be better to keep their place - and when they do have to be called upon they add nothing and we shouldn't really be carrying dead weight like that - we need more competition for places as it raises standards and performance levels and keeps first choice players sharp and on toes...and of course when we do need the back up it needs to be able to deliver/be relied upon/give us good options when in need of a change or when Plan A hasn't worked.

There are 6 names their you mention who if they left tomorrow would barely if at all be seen as a loss and that should not be case, especially in what is a compact sized squad with a boss who likes to work with such a sized squad. They all should be of a significantly higher standard at a club of our standing and with our ambitions.
