In the 4-3-3 with inverted wingers/forwards and overlapping fullbacks that we play, there's very few players better equipped to play the role than Firmino.

People putting Haaland, M'bappe etc in that central position (besides the fact it's not financially viable), can't have seen us play much the last few years, nevermind M'bappe or Haaland.

Requirements to play as our no 9/false 9;

1.Ability to press/start the press

2.Off the ball movement, create space for the wingers and overlapping fullbacks

3.Ability to hold the ball up/interplay with wingers and midfielders.

4.Finishing/movement in the box

5.Pace to threaten in behind for variation of play

While both Haaland and Mbappe are better at 3,4,5 than Firmino, they simply dont suit that role. If we were to buy one of those it would be at the expense of our current style of play or one of or both Mane/Salah.

I absolutely love our current set-up, and it will be extremely hard to replace the production of that front three. I think Jota has an important role as well, as he's able to do both Firmino's and especially Mane's job to a good level. He'll probably score more than Bobby in that role, but I think it will be at the expense of Salah's/Mane's goals.

Anyway, great to have all our key players fit again, the crowds roaring and to have made such a good start!

I dunno, we can get too fixated on what is Firmino is that we forget what he was.  He's perfect for Klopp's system, but Klopp didn't buy him, he was a defensive midfielder, then a striker, then a 10, and now this pressing 9.

The search for a new Bobby may begin in a weird place and lead us to a surprising player.

There may come a time when Jurgen decides to change the way we play. Let's just say Haaland was a possibility next summer then maybe we would change tactics to suit.

We're not going to have the same front three forever and maybe we won't find anyone to do that Firmino role well enough.

Haaland does the Firmino role already, he's exceptional at it.

I'd love him here, the big goofy twat, and he'll definitely be a PL player next, and United have a Haaland-sized hole to fill.  But, have to say, if he does I think he will be shithouse with his dad being ex City, and with Keane fucking his dad's career.

But his agent is Raiola.  Aka Pogba's agent, aka Lukaku's agent, aka Mkhitaryan's agent...

Nevermind.

Yeah, it's odd 4 years, a title and European Cup later, loads of people still don't really like the way we attack/crave a different type of player.

On Jota, I don't think he can remotely do what Firmino does but the upside to him is he allows us to go mega direct and have 3 players who can all beat a man with pace and power. I don't love the way we play with Jota, Salah and Mane, but it's a good alternative. He's added that versatility and directness to our attack without getting the "proper 9".

I just don't think Klopp believes there's room for another top attacker now. I think we'd all want one, but it won't be realistic. The best scenario will be, we have 4 players for 3 spots and then if we can get rid of Origi, you get a great young talent in the mould of the attackers we already have as the 5th option. And then whatever happens with Minamino happens.

This team is always one or two injuries away from a disaster.
