Not a comment on this lad as such, but there was night and day between the output of Mane and Salah before and after they joined us. A smaller sample size, but Jota has already been more prolific too. While playing with better players is undoubtedly a factor, we have excelled at signing somewhat unheralded attacking players at precisely the right moment in their careers.

Tielemans linked by Belgian Press. He'd be my first choice to replace Gini

Big fan of him. He'd have to up his game to be a starter when all are fit (hahahahahahahahahahaha....hahahahaha) but he would be a very good option.

Tielemans looks a really good option.

Some randomer on twitter said he's usually knackered by the 60th minute so he probably can't hack it in a Klopp team.

For that reason I'm out.

Well yes there must be something cause it certainly isnt 12 goals in 137 appearances.

Ikone needs to improve the end product, but the bad goal numbers are a bit misleading if people don't know what kind of player he is.

He's a lot more #10 than forward, although he has played striker before with a partner and on the wing. His style is more as the ball progresser that plays behind a striker.

Seems that way. If the media is to be believed then Chelsea, Leicester, Dortmund, and Inter are all sniffing around.

Quotes from the Lille forum;

I think for the good of the team, we have to let him go, even if he is one of the most talented players to come to us in the last 10 years ...

and

He will leave one day, but I'm afraid that we will pay dearly in terms of results, without him and if we missed David, the season will be long ...

Talent and qualities but starving statistics. He does not really know how to take advantage of his qualities and it becomes frustrating. Even when he's dribbling a player or getting in front of goal, he can make a bad choice.

Not really the profile to be the leader of an attack. He must fit in and take advantage of the good level of his teammates.

We may have a less talented player on the ball instead but more efficient.

I remember Salah when he came. Far from the finished article - misses to many chances, not ruthless enough. As others have pointed out - moneyball isn't about using stats to make decisions, it is about the analysis of those stats and looking for hidden qualities. What if he's laid on a number of chances throughout the year but the striker has missed them?

I don't know the answer to any of these questions. But, you would hope that Edwards has looked into a lot more data then we have. He's basically £30m - if they accept Shaqiri, and we get rid of Shaq.

It's a pretty shitty source for this story, is it not?

The inclusion of Shaqiri is a dead give away that it’s a bobbins story. You’d think the downside of signing Shaqiri for a reduced fee when we got him is that he probably got a hefty bump in wages. I doubt Lille are in a position to pay him good premier league level wages.

Good point! Never thought of that to be honest. It just feels like the type of signing we'd make.

Mane was top scorer for Southampton, wasn't he? Double figures in both seasons in the league too, I believe.

Salah was a goal every 2 games in Italy, which (first season aside) is pretty much what he's got here.

This Ikone must be cover rather than challenger.

I don't like the idea of Tielmens. Have seen nothing from him that suggests he's what we need.

Based on those stats, I wouldn’t be in favour of Ikone, even though I hadn’t heard of him until 5 minutes ago.

There was an article in The Athletic last week, an interview with Lovren, where he said he’d spoken to Shaq a lot recently.

Wonder if some high paid elephants grave yard like Russia or Turkey would be an option.

Kelleher will be out on loan by the sound of things, as long as we have a recall then it shouldn't matter

I'd like to see Rhys and Neco Williams out on loan

One of Davies or Phillips will stay as emergency CB i reckon

Don't see any point in keeping Miamino

Pretty much the same with Keita, Ox will stay unless a good bid comes in.

Can't see the club having a massive turnover of players

Lille sold Nicolas Pepe to Arsenal for big money 2 years ago, and Victor Osimhen to Napoli last summer again for big money. They were players with at least some tangible numbers to measure their productivity and effectiveness in Ligue 1. Ikone doesn't have that and, even though the rumoured fee is much smaller than for those other two, it's a lot of money to sign a work-in-progress when we need players to offer more outside of our established front 3 (and Jota). We aren't the right club for a player looking to improve his wayward shooting!
