Signing Konate could buck a trend in that we sign an injury-prone talent who morphs into the epitomy of durable and becomes a better player in the process. Normally we sign players who are scarcely injured at their previous club but can't stay away from the physio room once they sign for us, so we can never get the best out of them.

I don't think this latest injury is a "problem". He is back and getting some minutes.

The hip flexor thing that lasted over a year - problem.

But he is head and shoulders above Kabak FFS. He is more comparable to Gomez, only quicker, taller and stronger.

Joe Gomez doesn't need any company in the treatment room.

He is better than Gomez in my opinion.

Sure, Konate is probably more talented. But Kabak is 20 and he's 21.  Both are there to be moulded into the players they will become. Is it that certain that Konate will become a better centre back than Kabak? It's questionable. Careers can go a number of different directions.

Well it is certain that he has more pace, more height and more strength. Kabak will have to become exceptional at reading the game to make up for that imo.

That's a bold statement, Gomez has been recorded as being the fastest player at the club.

Van Dijk had the fastest recorded "sprint" in a game I think at 34.5k - pretty sure Konate recorded the same in a game.

Fair enough, my stat might have been from a couple of seasons ago

I don't think there is much between all three of them tbh - all have bags of pace. Something I think is integral to being successful in our system at CB.

There was an interview with Joe awhile back - he thought Salah and Mane would be quicker over 15-20 yards but if it stretched out to 40 or 50 both he and VvD would come out ahead.

We'd be mad to sign a centre back who hasn't made more than fifteen appearances in either of the last two seasons. If we didn't already have Gomez and Matip then I'd advocate taking the risk considering his ability and potential, but seeing as we're lumbered with both of them then I'd rather we looked elsewhere.

The Bournemouth thing is astonishing. It’s not like they’ve the financial space to take risks either.

Where were those links to Ezra Konsa from? He’s an interesting player, same age as Gomez but it looks like Gomez moving to us got Konsa’s career going and according to my sources he has 50 more league appearances than him despite breaking though later. Too similar to Joe or the perfect player to push him? If we are going for like for like replacements then he could be a decent prospect. Here’s some pointless stat comparisons and a shit YouTube comp.

I would like us to attempt to sign McNeil. Been thinking all season that he's taken a big step forward. Gets hardly any opportunity to make an impact statswise due to the way they play, but his work rate is really good (as you'd expect from a player getting chances under Dyche). Could actually see him develop into a midfield role for us. Could even cover Robbo in time.

This is my half-baked, can't even be arsed to watch Motd these days opinion.

I like the look of him too. Not sure he’s different enough to Jones though, who seems at least as talented.

We’re oversubscribed in midfield anyway, though Milner’s 35 and the post-injury Ox and regular Keita are utterly ineffectual. I reckon we’ll stubbornly persist with Keita for another season, though I’d be shocked at this stage if he breaks out of the injured/anonymous/modestly decent cycle.

I wonder what's piqued Abramovich's interest in football again? He went into a sulk when Mansour started blowing him out of the water on transfer fees and wages for a number of years. Now he seems to be back spending like a drunken sailor on shore leave.

Is making it a personal mission to sign Haaland if reports are to be believed.
