Brighton (H) Premier League - 3/2/21 - 20:15

Last season's corresponding fixture in November 2019 ended in a 2-1 win for the Reds. Two first half goals from Big Virg had us comfortably in control. Then late in the second half, Alisson came charging out of his area and inexplicably handled the ball as a Brighton forward tried to lob him. We were down to 10 and Adrian was called into the fray. He conceded a goal to Lewis Dunk immediately. Not his fault as he was lining up his wall. The numpty in charge (Atkinson) had already told Brighton to play to the whistle but allowed them to take a quick free kick anyway. Adrian was well out of position when the kick was taken. We were hanging on a bit but took all 3 points.

The season before that, we played Brighton in our second home game of the season in August 2018. Mo got the only goal of the game as we made it 3 wins from 3. It was the sort of goal we were making a habit of scoring, gegenpressing the shit out of the opposition and winning the ball high up to immediately create a one-v-one.

George Ezra's 'Shotgun' had returned to the number one spot having been top for a couple of weeks in early July aswell. The weird-voiced face-of-Hitler-Youth looking fuck is just another British singer with an inexplicably successful career (see Blunt, Sheeran, Capaldi etc). It's predictably crap, but numbnuts up and down the land love him. That it's not even the worst thing of his I've heard still doesn't say much about him or it.

We've rediscovered most of our mojo over the past week, looking more like the team we'd been over the previous couple of years. We're in the mix again at the business end of the league table despite having to use our umpteenth central defensive partnership, and despite the slump in form over the turn of the year. We were missing a couple of midfield options as well as an important forward option and also had to do without one of the fabled front 3 in the last game. Any defensive reinforcements will come too late for this game, but Klopp and co will still have a plan for how to set up for this one. Hopefully we put on a much better showing than we did in the reverse fixture back in November when we failed to take our chances. We got screwed over at both ends by VAR, with Mo having a goal disallowed after another one of those bollocks fine-margin offside calls, and Robbo being penalised for something that nobody else has been done for since.

If we play like we are capable of and we are clinical with the chances we create - more like a rifle than a shotgun then (see what I did there?) - we can blow Brighton away, despite them coming off the back of their own good performance and result against Spurs. Just get it done.

His worst game was against these the last time, if I recall correctly.

It was. Brighton are more fluid in their attacking play, there's more movement, their forwards are more mobile. It's too bad because he deserves a start on form and logically he should play to give the arrivals time to adapt, but I feel like this is not a good opponent for him.

Phillips has played his way into the team for me. Until Virgil or Gomez return he should be first choice cb. Not even sure why he was taken out to be honest.

These 2 new lads need to been seen alongside Phillips, not out straight in. How the fuck would someone pick a 20 year old and a Preston player ahead of someone who has been playing well for us? He’s very overlooked by most

Yeah, Phillips and Henderson for this one surely. Outside chance of Fabinho for Sunday hopefully.
