Their presenter taking the knee and the channel's reaction to it is a good example of that. They went big, as any operation/individual portraying itself as right-wing would, with the whole 'freedom of expression' thing, which is a valid enough principle in itself, IMO. 

 

The problem is that, their viewers, whilst also undoubtedly seeing themselves as 'freedom of speech' advocates, actually believe in nothing of the sort, hence the fury and outrage when that presenter expressed himself in a way they disagreed with.

 

What does the channel do in this situation? Fall back on the principles it expounded at launch? it can't because it has none, it's a hollow outfit at core, so it falls back on its only real motives - to appeal to bigots and make money doing it. This is how they've ended up in this ridiculous situation.
