It is fucking stupid....someone is gonna get injured chasing a ball shouldn't need to.

It is ridiculous - may as well do away with linos if they aren't gonna flag obvious offsides.

This is the PL's explanation of it.

Delaying the flag for offside

This is new for the 2020/21 Premier League. When an immediate goalscoring opportunity is likely to occur, the assistant referee will keep their flag down if they think there is an offside until the passage of play is completed.

Once a goal is scored or the chance is gone, the assistant will raise the flag to indicate the initial offence.

If a goal is scored, the VAR will review the offside call. This weekend, incidents of a goal being scored and the assistant raising their flag occurred twice. The referee does not need to go to the Referee Review Area (RRA) as the decision is factual.

1 hour ago, Tony Moanero said:

It bloody wasn’t!

After waiting for that and 48 subsequent competitions to be played out, the linesman finally (and very probably posthumously) raised his flag last Tuesday - and VAR have subsequently named Newcastle as joint FA Cup winners for 1972.

It's also been ruled that they were knocked out in the quarter finals of the 1972/73 Cup Winners' Cup by an imaginary Dundee United, who have as a result retrospectively rescinded their participation in the 2010/11 Europa League.

... and AEK Athens are considering an appeal to restore their 2-1 aggregate victory over the Tangerines at the play-off stage.

It's the inconsistency. I'm sure Mane got flagged instantly in the first half.

It's shite because sooner or later someone is going to get injured in a last ditch tackle which is wholly unnecessary as it's an offside.

As annoying as it is it’s going to allow more correctly scored goals to stand rather than be cut out with a flag when they were actually on side with a second look.  The Mane flag was comical though as he basically had the ball in the exact position Rashford had it.  He did look offside though.

The early whistle in the first half was just typical of the reffing we’ve had this season.  That complete muppet Richards at half time said we were clutching at straws because Lindelof was about to pick it up and lay it back to the keeper.  This cunt gets paid to comment.

    • This'll likely be met with "Guardiola, he's one to talk, always working for rich clubs" shouts, but he's just been interviewed and laid down a few truths. I think. His English is still fairly poor (better than my Spanish though). He seemed to be suggesting that it's unfair to highlight the big 6 clubs looking out for themselves when literally everybody else in football does this anyway. He mentioned the 5 subs things and how, in discarding that change, clubs acted in a way that was best for them, not for the greater good or the wellbeing of players. He highlighted how UEFA and national associations acted in their best interests by playing Lewandowski in a qualifier against Andorra in which he was injured and missed playing in an important Champions League club game. Guardiola seemed to be against the whole Super League thing, but said questions needed to be answered and more information provided by the suits behind it, and not by club coaches etc.
    • I agree it won't happen now. But as a possibility, would you really dismiss it?    In 10 years time? If we are still in the premier league then yes, I think you are right - but, if we are forced to leave that - then there is no reason we don't become a 'franchise'. Tens of thousands of angry Scouse fan's is not an attractive marketing message. Those 12 can't survive as they are - they would need to bring others on board. They would need to make it a viable competition - they may have to go global to do that. And that is where I think we could be vulnerable.
    • Half time 0-0 We've had the majority of the game without creating enough; our three shots on target have all been from outside the box. We should have had a pen for handball when a pass from Musialowski was knocked down by a stray forearm.
    • Ex-players have every right to voice an opinion but did any of these pricks turn down a contract offer because they were getting paid too much and it was going to come from the pockets of ordinary working class fans through ticket prices, more merchandise and ever increasing Sky subs?   Did. They. Fuck. This reaction of ex-pros and politicians is nauseating, more so than businesses trying to business.
    • Spot on mate, fucking hell something has to happen , this so called best league in the world is utter garbage, sky started it and now that the chalice has been taken out of their hands they use the idiot Neville to plead their case. I just want to see good football, played between sides that attack and want to win. I am sick of pundits applauding Fat Sam and his defiant rearguard tactics , now they are all at it. Twenty two overpaid one footed wonders , run like fuck for two hours and play a square ball ten feet( if they on their good foot) , if this means that I can go and see top class skilled players, trying to win with top officials running the game then I all for it , because as it is it’s fucked!
