And, given the age of our team, one that means spending like Chelsea or City this summer to get back in. The fact that Van Dijk, Fabinho, Mané and Salah all only have two years left on their contracts is ridiculous; miss out on the CL and selling two of them will have FSG insisting on further outgoings to accommodate a new signing.

We will start next season as the best team. Fabinho, Virgil and Mane will stay though Mo could be sold and that will fund maybe two top class players.

Right now the team is a shambles but you would want to be naive to think that Jurgen doesn't turn it around.

Well that’s been coming, we’ve reverted to the end of Brendan Rodgers days. Never for a second did I believe we were scoring at any Point today. Thought we were unlucky with not getting on pen for Pieters handball, don’t see how’s that not a penalty when one given against Joe Gomez at etihad is. Also the tackle by lowton on mane after mane shot, what’s the difference between what him and alisson did?

Sad evening, we look broken. The hallmark and brilliance of this team was that the always somehow found a way, you’d think it’s not happening for them and they’d somehow manage to pull it out of the bag time and time again.

What we’re watching is a team devoid of confidence and any ideas how to score a goal, we’re handed one on a silver platter and origi fucking cracks the crossbar. That was unforgivable, you simply cannot pass up a chance like that.

I guess it’s reflective of life  itself at the moment utter shite, depressing and pointless.

The time for investing was straight after the CL final, our stock was huge then. Instead we held tight and thanks to the genius of Kopp and a talented, hardworking but smallish squad we drove on to win the WCC and and finally bring home No 19. The chickens are definitely coming home to roost now though.

I find it hard to blame the players for this though, they've ran themselves into the ground for the best part of 2 years. Not enough  competition for some of the players to keep them on their toes and it's natural that that combined with an injury crisis meant something was going to give.

Unless there is a huge turnaround in fortunes for us, and the teams near the top all start taking a downturn like our recent one, we've made a real hash of the league this season. Too many draws, too many defeats, and an increasing number of abject performances. It's not all down to losing Big Virg for the season either.

That long unbeaten home league record is now gone. And this is the first time Sadio Mane has lost in the league at Anfield. EVER. His only game for Southampton at Anfield saw him score an late equaliser for them in the league in what was Klopp's first home game in charge all the way back in October 2015 (he'd yet to sign for Southampton when we beat them on the opening day of the previous season). He was at the AFCON when Swansea won here in early 2017, and he was out injured when Palace came to Anfield and won towards the end of that season.

Another unwanted stat is that we've made a pig's ear of retaining trophies that we'd won the previous season. The last time we did so was all the way back in 1984, when Fagan was in the dugout and Souness was on the pitch. As I said at the top, unless some dramatic turnaround happens, that's not going to change this season.

Ye have to laugh. Hubris is a big factor here IMO. Too many fucking shapers think they've done all they need to do.

Mo - waster. Head is in Spain.

Mané - clearly not well since covid.

TAA - gone backwards, the new Dele Ali

Matip - Perma crock

Bobby - past it. Can't run.

Thiago - not suited to PL.

Ox - fucked from injury, played out of position.

Minamino - lightweight Jersey, selling cunt.

Gini - leaving. Disaster losing him.

Origi - as useful as a chocolate teapot.

Shaq - hot and cold.

Gomez - perma crock.

The following are about the only one's worthy or any sort of praise:

Hendo - perma crock. Injured.

VVD - obvious reasons. Injured.

Milner - getting on. Injured.

Fabinho - feel sorry for him.

Robbo - see Fab.

Think I'll just watch repeats of how good this team once was and fuck watching the rest of this season. We've been shite but it must be demoralising getting robbed every game by VAR.

Ive thought that- it smacks of a lack of hunger as theyve done it all. Without Covid we may have basked in the glory along with the fans and extended the momentum but in these souless empty stadiums the hunger and desire has gone. Understandably to a degree.

Carragher often chats shite, but he's spot on here. You could tell after about 60 minutes that we weren't scoring. It was an unintelligent performance. We just kept on doing the same thing and Burnley defended with relative ease. We've had 3 years of top level form. Maybe last season was the pinnacle and that, plus injuries and no fans has resulted in us crashing back to earth with a bang.

FSG won't spend a dime while matchday income is zero.

I can't wait to miss out on the Champions League this year and read Pearcey's and Reddy's hot takes next year about how missing out on the CL together with the effects of COVID mean we need to realign our expectations with our new reality. Followed by a scoop about how we've signed the new VVD who's 3 and plays in the Azerbaijani U-12 national side.
