£30 per child? It will come as no surprise that the company hired to make the parcels (Chartwells) part of Compass Group one of the top Tory donors. Company CEO is mates with Cameron. £5 food per £30 of public money. They are now making profit from starving children. Utter fucking abhorrent scum

Anyone really fucking shocked.

I'm surprised they didn't just send them a box of porridge. Just waiting for Grove etc to come and say we couldn't give them cash as they'd only spend it in sky or booze

Thats the anti-humanity line on twitter. "I know someone who changed a voucher for cigs and ale" and all that fucking bollocks.

I'm reserving judgement on this one until more information becomes available.

One conclusion that I'm happy to reach is to say that that is a dull, unimaginative, stingy parcel to give to kids for their lunches. It's shockingly bad and £30 of vouchers would be a much better idea.

But, the implication/claim that it's cost the public purse £30 for each of the parcels needs further investigation/clarification. People seem to be jumping to the conclusion that these replacement parcels have been sourced for £30 just because the scheme they replaced was for £30 of vouchers. The new scheme might have just been to provide affordable lunches for schoolchildren, not to necessarily provide £30 worth of food for children. I don't know this for sure and it may be the case that it was meant to be a £30 voucher for £30 worth of food voucher.

But, (I'm probably being naive here) surely no cheeky fucker would have the audacity to try and pass that parcel off as consisting of £30 of food?

£30 or not surely no considerate human being would try and pass those parcels off as substantial food for children.

As someone who had free school diners for 90% of my time at school it needs remembered that it's supposed to be a proper hot meal, because it's a good chance that it's the only hot meal the kid might get in a day.

You'd have been better expanding meals on wheels in the local councils and paying them to drop off meals. Thats assuming they still run like they did 10 years back when my mum worked for them

Sickening.

Apparently the £30 vouchers couldn't be exchanged for any age-restricted products (so no booze, fags or scratchies) so that was always a lie as well as an insult.

I suspect you are being naive.

Sigh (not at you, it's just this much hate towards these evil bastards is fucking exhausting)

And why weren't non-profit enterprises like the Real Junk Food Project considered for this?

https://trjfp.com/activities/food-for-individuals/too-good-to-go-magic-boxes/

TRJFP intercept perfectly good food destined for landfill due to our wasteful society and actually feed those in need with it. Leeds Council in their wisdom have engaged them in feeding the most vulnerable around the city. If ot can happen here, it can happen everywhere.
