Giving up the booze

My man, I don't know if I ever apologized for bringing up your alcohol abuse in an argument a couple years ago. I still feel bad about that, so I'd like to apologize now.

Anyway, I'll never understand alcoholism, I don't know how it gets to such a point. Some of the stuff in this thread... wow. I can barely drink three pints on a full night out.

Apology accepted. No need to feel bad.

Everything my circle of friends did socially involved drinking. Beer before and after watching live sport, drinking whilst watching films or playing video games, pub crawl orientated city breaks, or just drinking locally or in town. I developed a taste for it and never knew when to stop and go home. It became a habit and I started going to the pub, with or without them, on a daily basis. I distanced myself from my mates and eventually stopped seeing them altogether. However, I enjoyed pubs so much that I continued frequenting them. Real ale and the sheer variety of choice became a hobby. It got to stage whereby it was all that I drank, nothing else, not even water. My wife would have to tag along in order to spend time with me, which she hated as she barely drinks.

Feels pathetic writing it down and reading it back but that is how it happened.

If Stig carries on digging up decade-old posts I made at 3:30am after a Xmas night out, I might be off the ale for even longer than planned. Or back on it sooner than I'd hoped. Not sure which yet.

9 days no drinking now but more critically 2 dry weekends under my belt including the match yesterday which is always a trigger to have a few beers. Going to keep going to February.

We stopped on the same day didn't we? (The Sunday after New years) so it should be 15 days??? Unless you've caved or I've got the wrong person. I'm 15 days anyway, wasn't even tempted yesterday. My sleeping has been all over the place but gradually getting normal. Had a workout earlier and have been eating healthy. Starting to feel physically better. Mentally though I'm not sure.

Yeah maths not my strong suit even though I’m accountant. Anyway you’re doing great, keep going. I find 6pm to 8pm the hardest time.

Just goes to show, that's what accountancy does to you.

I had 6 bottles of Heineken Zero (or whatever it's called) last night. I woke up with a right bad head this morning, so either I have the rona, or that shit is full of chemicals far worse than alcohol!

I have a very mild headache. I'm not coming into contact with anybody at this point, so no need to test for anything.

I went to bed at 9pm last night as i started sneezing my balls off in the late afternoon. I'm dosed up on Lemsip max strength as my nose is streaming today, my head feels like a balloon and the sneezing is still there. God knows how you catch a cold in lockdown and you have only left the house to get petrol in the last week.

Some depressing reading in this thread. I've been trying to cut down booze intake over the last few years and I record every booze free day and the amount of alcohol I do drink - did 200 booze free days last year and 347 litres of beer, going to aim for more of the former this year and less of the latter.  Had a drink on Sunday as I try to have a rule I can have a drink when watching the game

    • Yep, don't expect we'll all agree on the players to keep or sell but broadly that's my expectation.
    • Agree with all of that except I think it'll be Davies plus just one other CB. And maybe keep Shaq instead of Ox. So three players in and probably five or six of those who've hardly contributed this season out (plus Gini's wages) to pay for them.
    • Hard to disagree.   Feels we are at a genuine crossroads now.   An ageing squad....loads of crocks....possibly missing out on European Cup riches.   The club can either be bold and start the rebuild from what is a reasonably strong base or sit and do fuck all and watch what have built creak more and then fall apart and fall behind our rivals....
    • I know we improved after Coutinho left, just saying that when he was here there were plenty of games where we playing a 10 men behind the ball wall and he would win us the game with a goal from a free-kick or a belter from distance. It’s just something we rarely see these days. I had a look and we’ve scored 3 from outside the box this season, Leeds have 10, Leicester 9 and even City with their pass you to death/boredom style have 7.
I think we’ve become quite predictable and easy to set up against, and it wouldn’t do us any harm to mix things up, especially whilst we’re in this difficult spell.
    • We will choose the second and use excuses rather than actually saying the squad fell short or its weaknesses were highlighted we need to invest in it. This January was just a shocking display of being as frugal as absolute possible, there was absolutely zero ambition shown, taki was almost certainly loaned out to cover the cost of bringing in a championship player who they definitely thought we can flip this player for more later and a bottom of the bundesliga 20 year old on loan who we probably only looked as in the first place last year because it looked like a moneyball deal but it turns out his club wanted profit on his potential too. At the most vital times it feels like the club is cursed to sit on its laurels while other teams evolve.
