Well he wrote it when he was in the Velvet Underground. First recorded version on Loaded but a few live versions before that. Cowboy Junkies version sounds like one of the earlier slower ones. Lou did rockier versions later and murdered the poor thing numerous times live. 

 

I reckon subconsciously or not he nicked loads of it from this

Yes the intro especially if my memory is correct. 40 years ago mind.
