Gerard Houllier

Gutted by this. I was 16 when we won the treble and I felt like my team was unbeatable and you can't ask for more than that as a young football fan. A proper John the Baptist figure in our history - got us taken seriously at home and especially in Europe.

RIP Ged.

We would not be where we are today if Gerard Houllier had not started the process of modernisation.

As a football club we had fallen years behind other clubs and young players were choosing to join clubs like Derby over us.

He did not have a large pot of money to turn things around but he did it with intelligence, cunninng, and charm.

A very sad day

Just seen the news about Ged. What an utter bitch this year has been. Ged will always be remembered for the cup treble in 2001 and I was fortunate to be at all 3 finals. He may not have won the title but he did help turn the club around. Known for one or two rants but what manager doesnt have these from time to time.

Thanks for the memories and trophies Ged. Always in our hearts. RIP YNWA.

Sad news, that.

Memories of singing a rubbish song by a local folk band, Scotch on the Rocks, in the car down to Cardiff to the league Cup final against the Mancs.

"Who's the man who came from France?

Houlli-Houlli...

Who's the man who made us dance?

Houlli-Houllier!"

A good man who came into the club in difficult circumstances and tightened things up. His Fowler eating the grass like Rigobert Song excuse will live on in cult legend.

This sucks, 2000-2001 was an amazing season in its own right but he was so much more.

He turned us around massively and dragged us into the 21st century when he joined. he also brought through or signed some of my favourite players ever to play for the club. He may have fallen away at the end of his time with us but her rebuilt us on and off the pitch. Massively instrumental for France too. His footballing legacy is just so huge.

thanks for the memories Ged.
