A screaming Banshee is battering one of the greatest female singers who ever lived. Face palm!

You say screaming banshee like it's a bad thing! I've got a lot of time for women with a screw loose and Kate Bush is the poster girl for them all.

This is some opening lyric for a mind boggingly good debut song (written by a teenager)....

Out on the Wiley, windy moors

We'd roll and fall in green

You had a temper like my jealousy

Too hot, too greedy

How could you leave me

When I needed to possess you?

I hated you, I loved you too

Bad dreams in the night

You told me I was going to lose the fight

Leave behind my wuthering, wuthering

Wuthering Heights.

Kate Bush is England's greatest female music artist, in my opinion.

Is that what she says? Fucking hell.

I love her

Strange Fruit is one of the most powerful jaw dropping truly incredible songs ever written but Kate Bush is eclectic, individual, wonderful and utterly unique and refreshing.

It's all good and old Carvalho endorses this result whichever way it may fall.

Strange Fruit is one of the great songs. But Billie Holiday didn't write it (a white, Jewish communist guy did). Whilst Kate Bush wrote her songs.

I guess it comes down to what you put more stock in - writing the songs or performing them (or both, in Bush's case). Billie Holiday brought that song to life, you could argue.

As you say, both are greats and either result is justifiable really.

I can't take to Kate Bush at all, talent up to the Wazoo but I would listen to Billie Holiday every day for a year before I would consider putting Kate Bush on.

Music for middle aged divorced, overweight, Tenna Lady wearing, Malteser addicts who have too much money to spend in Laura Ashley when they aren't glued to the couch binge-watching Orange is the New Black.

Kate Bush also wrote The Man With the Child In His Eyes when she was 13 (!)

I hear him, before I go to sleep
And focus on the day that's been.
I realize he's there,
When I turn the light off and turn over.
Nobody knows about my man.
They think he's lost on some horizon.
And suddenly I find myself
Listening to a man I've never known before,
Telling me about the sea,
All his love, 'til eternity.
Ohh, he's here again,
The man with the child in his eyes.

Did nobody pick up on this?

I wouldn't put myself quite in that bracket (more of a Ferrero Roche than Malteaser), but I do find it odd how successful she was. A bit like Pink Floyd really - arty, prog, out there - selling records by the absolute boatload.
