This thread gives me an excuse to play the following vid. Billie Holliday with the Lester Young band. Young was known around jazz circles as 'the prez' not only was he one of the most exceptional saxophone players of his generation he was also thought to have been the person to give the nickname "bread' for money. Young apparently stayed away from drugs and concentrated on the music and the money  However most of the horn players and Billie herself were  unfortunately battling heroin addiction at the time this video was shot, however the result is magnificent, these players were in a different world.

The most popular female artists have not been deemed good enough in this tournament , they have been left out for some old shite that people have never really listened to but read aboout in the hidden corners of the dark web.

It's an interesting one Tony. I think the democratic way the tournament was made up has been a factor, lots of obscure artists who only three or four posters like have made it into the tournament & other people then aren't interested in the ties.

 

Speaking for myself, my music collection is pretty male orientated as well. I'm not sure if it's a sexist thing or not but barring Aretha & Joni Mitchell, I don't have an awful lot of albums by female artists or groups. Women had much less of a go at it prior to Punk happening certainly, which is when a lot of 'classic' rock/pop music was made.

Also, I think the vast majority of the female artists I do like are South American and African and therefore not in this competition. Not the case with male artists (a bit with the bands but considerably less so than in the female comp).

 

I haven't voted in half the ties in this one, as I either have no opinion on either artist or think both are shite.

 

I guess it could pick up a bit when we get to the last eight.

A vote for the ‘fittest’ female artist (limited versions done before I seem to recall) would certainly garner more attention than one for the ‘greatest’.

 

The GF has always been more appreciative of the female form than anything they say or do.
 

Some may consider this is an outdated attitude, not me obviously and here’s a selection of ‘hotties’ to prove it.
