He's a dickhead him

Can't comment on the echo's output these days as I don't read it, but he's not a bad lad. He was a trainee when I was a senior at another rag and we used to have 9am daily story meetings where we'd have to tell the news editor what we were working on, she asked me for my list and just as I'm about to speak he put his hand up proper sheepish and goes "um, I've got to be in court in a bit could I go first?" and I just shouted loudly: "Ho!!! The BALLS on this kid!!!". Seemingly not familiar with the sopranos he just put his head down.

We were on a night out once for a leaving do and we both went in separate directions but he found a dead body in a doorway and phoned it in. I remember thinking if it'd been me I'd have just gone home because I wouldn't have wanted to write it up. Such was the diverging points we were at in our careers.

As I say, I don't know what the output there is like now but he's a sharp lad and gives a fuck, many don't, especially the higher ups. For a manc too he does genuinely love the city of Liverpool, it's unnerving.

Ever have occasion to discuss how you wrote your dissertation at Uni with him?

I think the echo comes in for a lot of shite because of its online content. I've had a pop more than once. It's just clickbait central.

He's by far the only one but I think Thorpe gets a lot of stick because his name seems to always be next to utter fucking nonsense articles online.

Not sure if it made the paper version but I remember a couple of years ago he was doing a series of reports about the brasses working on Sheil Road in Kensington. You'd have thought it was the first time he had heard the brasses operate in the city. He was sat in his car as the girls were touting for trade. The comments section was funny as fuck.

Back to the case of Anderson and friends. Every time there was a story in the echo about failed developments, the comments sections would be full of people dropping all sorts of names into the hat with allegations of being corrupt, taking backhanders, etc. It must have been a wealth of information for the coppers.
