Owen: Jota has been the best signing of the Premier League season

Recommended Posts

The outstanding start by Diogo Jota to his Liverpool career has been acknowledged with Michael Owen saying that the Portuguese star has been the best signing of the new Premier League season.

While Thiago was seen as the prize capture by the Reds during the Summer transfer window, it has been the 23 year-old former Wolves man who has made a seamless transition scoring nine goals in just 15 appearances in all competitions.

The quality performances of Jota have been worth their weight in gold when you consider the  amount of absentees Klopp has had to deal with through injury.

His rapid progress has caused Jurgen Klopp to shake up his front three with Roberto Firmino the man to miss out on a few occasions, a proposition that seemed highly unlikely just a few months ago.

That added depth to the front line has been seen by many as the final piece to the puzzle in Liverpool being the ultimate all-round team.

Speaking on BT (via Metro) the former Reds striker said that consistent form of the forward has been a pleasant surprise.

“No one could’ve predicted that he would hit the ground running like he has.

“He’s surprised me with his pace, I must admit. I think he’s far quicker than I gave him credit for.

"Against Atalanta he was electric.

‘He just shows composure, a lot of people panic, they just get a shot off as soon as they get any form of space. ‘I just think he’s scored headers, right foot, left foot, he’s scored everything so far and he’s looked the real deal in terms of linking play.

“Nobody could have envisaged the quality that he’s shown so far.”

Fellow former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch added that the ability of Jota to adapt his game has been clearly evident.

“Klopp’s obviously seen something in him, putting him more central or along the three of the strikers that they have. ‘He looks like a poacher.

“He’s getting goals in the six-yard box, he’s got headers, he’s got all types of goals.

“He’s a top, top signing."

Love the third paragraph of that article. So much so that I was delighted to read it again as the sixth paragraph.

Yep, just glad he left the last 3 words off second time around as they weren't offering much

Who would be in contention for other clubs. Can't remember anyone else's signings other than Cavani and Hamez. Oh and Dacoure

Aston Villa have done well with Barkley and their young striker who banged in a cracker against us.

Oh yeah Chelsea bought some players from our wishlist in Havertz and Werner. I haven't watched much of them, but I'd guess Havertz is looking the better of the 2?

Chelsea's best signing was from Ajax I believe - Hakim Ziyech. Seriously good player. Werner needs lots of chances it seems to score but he's quick, Havertz I don't think he's really settled in so far from what I've seen. Chelsea look good but they are inconsistent.

I'm not sure Ziyech counts
