Suzanne Vega, one of my favourite artists ever.  Should get extra votes for two songs with Liverpool connections (Gypsy and In Liverpool)

Everyone knows Luca, Tom's Diner, probably Marlene on the Wall and they're all good songs, but look up Cracking and Ironbound. Gah, and loads of others, too many to mention, she's fantastic.

And a brilliant, warm, funny live performer.

edit - and the first woman to headline at Glastonbury

Suzanne Vega's Liverpool bookends:

Gypsy - about meeting a lad from Liverpool at a summer camp aged 18

And, In Liverpool - 15 years later while staying in Liverpool one Sunday night to play at The Empire, thinking about the same lad and writing this song
