Remember watching that game well, John Barnes came on late for England and was tearing them a new arsehole, they were hanging on for dear life and the whistle couldn’t come quick enough for them.

Strip away the hysteria of the media and the spotlight on his personal life - Maradona was the most talented, imaginative, inventive, passionate, skilled, power pack of a footballer that ever played ..... and mostly with just a left foot.

 

Pele was a fabulous player also but he did it with some absolute stars around him.Diego, by fair means or foul, succeeded with much lesser talent who he lifted by his presence and his example.

 

 

He may have been a madmen, occasionally a rule breaker, but more frequently he was what we should all appreciate - one of the greatest footballers who ever played the game.
