I've just had a similar discussion on Facey. For me, Messi is a better player than Maradona. But, he doesn't have that unexplainable something that Maradona had, that made you feel like you could identify with more than you can with Messi. It's similar to how many Liverpool fans look at an Owen versus Fowler discussion. The grit, guile, the craftiness, the attitude, the little bit of being a scally or an upstart or just being a bit of a lunatic might not make a technically or statistically better player, but it makes for a greater and more iconic player.

Having seen the recent documentary on his managerial reign in Mexico it was pretty obvious his health was in a bad way and it seems he wasn't helping himself either. True legend of the game but his early demise is not a great surprise,sadly.

If I had to pick someone to play for my life it would be Diego everytime.
