Rooms on Fire by Stevie Nicks is better than anything Madonna has done. Madonna's high record sales have a lot to with her not being afraid to get her kit off for various types of projects, videos, films and whatever. While that's not a particularly bad thing it helped cover up how poor a singing voice she has. Her showmanship or showomanship, precedes her musical ability.

Papa, don't preach.

How much Madonna stuff do you know?

Granted her voice is not the best, though Stevie Nicks' voice is very Marmite and not to everyone's liking (I love her), but to doubt Madonna's musical ability is folly.

Go and look up reviews for the Like A Prayer album, far from my favourite and the style perhaps not to your personal taste, but it's widely considered an all time great pop album.

I feel the women are being judged more on their voice.  The men's final was between Bowie and Dylan, nowhere near great singers.  The Stones won the British band tournament yet Mick Jagger's voice is rather unconventional, putting it politely.

I never voted for either of them to reach the final in the men's contest. The quality of a person's voice is very high on my own personal agenda when voting in these contests. I'm not disputing Madonna made some decent songs but I don't think she's particularly good.
