Google Stadia

Is anyone using this? I'm tempted.... At the moment if you order Cyberpunk 2077 you get a free Stadia controller and Chromecast Ultra. £59.99 but you can get a tenner off when you sign up.

Seems strange buying a game and getting a console free.

I don't have a current gen console (save the Switch), and I won't be buying the new ones. I'm fed up with wires and cables all over the place. I've got a new extension and I plan to put a new telly on the wall - I do like the idea of having essentially a console running through a small Chromecast.

My only concern is a monthly payment. I already have monthly subscriptions - do I need another one? Also, my internet is hit and miss sometimes.

Turns out Stadia was probably the best place to actually get Cyberpunk.

Also, not sure if any Stadia owners have tried, but it runs really well on iOS devices. I set mine up on my iPad and have to say that I've been impressed.

Follow the instructions here and check it out for yourself.

This is on offer for £20, down from £70.

Residents of the Tech Forum, tell me why I should or shouldn’t buy it.

Even the Chromecast it comes with is supposed to be worth £20 on it’s own.

This arrived today. I’ve only had time for a quick blast on PGA 2K21 but I’ve clicked on a couple more and ‘owned’ them instantly. Moto GP, Destiny 2, Saints Row IV has one or two more. It’s well worth £20 but there is a slight lag at times.

I’ll try it with the Ethernet cable plugged into the Chromecast next time. You get a free 1 month trial and a tenner off the first game you buy. .

Is that 'buy' in inverted commas? That is do you have to keep subscribing to play the games?

The free games you’ve claimed are yours for as long as you’re a paying member. Even if you have a break from paying, once you go back they’ll be there.

As far as I can make out, any games you buy are yours forever, subscription or not. The downside is that if you’re not a member you won’t be able to play those games in 4K.

How's the connection holding up? You using WiFi or ethernet?

Sorry for not replying mate. It’s just through WiFi atm. There’s been one or two occasions where it’s gone kind of clunky for a second or two, but nothing bad enough for me to stand up and walk the two yards to the TV and plug the Ethernet in.

There’s a couple of games on there my daughter loves. Cake Bash, Spirit (horse cartoon) and Hello Engineer. It’s been worth it for that alone.

I bought FIFA 22 for this in the New Year sale. Hadn’t played FIFA for years but it was reduced down to £30 and I still had the £10 off voucher from joining so it only cost me £20. Would be silly not to buy it at that price. Started a career mode and found it good value so far. Signed Bellingham, GreaseMan and Ricardo Perraira as back up for Trent. Bombed out Minamino and Ox in part exchange.

Also picked up Far Cry 5 for about £8. Never played any of the Far Cry games but it looks decent, and again couldn’t turn it down at that price.
