Funny you should say that Baz, as it's getting to the stage where we might be playing midfielders in 3/4 of the defensive positions! It looks like we might need 2 CHs in January, at this rate. Though Klopp's unlikely to bring in two, and risk upsetting the squad dynamics.

He's still getting picked for the Dutch squad, so can't be all bad. Very unlikely he gets a game though, what with de Ligt, de Vrijs, Ake, Schuurs etc, never mind Virg before the injury. It's difficult to assess his quality and fitness if he's not getting games anywhere. Also whether he would accept a short-term contract, is another consideration.

Maybe Klopp skipps the short-term options, accepts the financial hit, and takes the plunge and brings in one of the future targets earlier than planned?

We might bring forward one deal if we were going to go in the summer anyway, but I'd have thought we're in a worse place financially than we'd want to be after not selling Shaq, Wilson and grujic and the ground not opening last month as planned.

I think we would be very much up for a short term deal, even if it was like how I mentioned with tarkowski and we buy now, flog to a mid tier club later.

There is no telling if either VVD or Gomez are fit to start next season at the moment. You can guarantee Klopp and the medical lot won't rush them.

We need a proper 3rd choice CB

If the club think the finances are bad now the possibility og not getting a top 4 place due to using youth players for most of the season as CB would be fucking disasterous. Next year's budget will be small enough with paying Wolves the money owed and Salah and Mane are not hanging around for Europa League football

We’ll sign someone overpriced for £18-25M mid table or championship with premier league experience. Possibly two players in this mould. The potential loss of revenue from failing to qualify for the CL or get through to this season’s latter stages means it’s a no-brainer of an investment.

#LFC just made a question to #Olympiacos about the financial status of a possible transfer for CB Ruben Semedo. Nothing more than that till now. Olympiacos will demand at least €20m. #LiverpoolFC

This guys is banned from visiting Spain for 8 years, smashed a bottle on a guy's head. The last CB that we were strongly linked to - Kabak also had character issues. Are we looking to solve some "we are tooo nice" issues in the team?

It's mad that, considering we sold two CBs without replacing them

Most players don't have a 'legal issues' section to their wiki. For anyone who has not read it. Given the stuff about checking Jota's character, I'm gonna say this one would surprise.

January 2018, it was announced that Semedo would stand trial for an altercation in a bar in Valencia the previous November, when the player allegedly brandished a pistol and made threats while he was nursing an injury.[27][28] He was arrested again for a separate incident on 20 February, this time for allegedly tying up and assaulting a man in his home alongside two others, then going to the victim's house to burgle it.[29] For the latter incident, he was charged with attempted murder and placed in preventive detention.[30]

On 13 July 2018, Semedo was released from prison after paying bail of 30,000.[31] Facing a maximum 1512-year sentence, he confessed two years later to kidnap, robbery, wounding and illegal firearm possession; he was fined €46,000 and banned from entering Spain for the next eight years

    • What, the same courts that found the Government had illegally used the 'royal perogative' to disband Parliament, you mean?   Im mean knock yourself out if you think some half arsed lawyer jumping the Euro League debate is onto a winner with this. The 14 clubs wont eject the 6 despite what the papers may want to tell you.
    • Would they? These are government issued permits - the rules are in place and as the Govt is opposed to the breakaway they certainly won't be changing it. If we are not within the FA - then we can't get permits. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it. Also, I wouldn't be so quick to suggest this Government is particularly concerned over the rule of law. They've proven that time and time again.
    • I’ve said something similar to this in the past and again yesterday and I fully agree with scrapping the EL.
Drop the EL group stages. Have a 64 team group stage. Top 16 or 32 clubs play for the CL, the next 16 or 32 clubs play for the UEFA Cup and even now, the bottom 16 play for the Conference Cup.
That would allow 7 or 8 English clubs to qualify for it each season and how well you do is based on merit.
Allow some sort of weighting to the TV deal (ie a group game of PSG v Man Utd gets more revenue than Prague v Salzburg or something) and clubs to organise their own sponsorship deals for the games and boom, done, simples    Project Big Picture should also come into play. Bin off the League Cup, have more CL Group games. Reduce the Premiership to 18 sides.
    • The Champions League is like that now though. You tend to get the same teams - the Pot 4 teams are really the only ones that tend to be any different - but once you get into the knockout stages - out of 16 you have PSG, Madrid, Barca, Athletic, Juve, Munich, City, Sevilla, Porto, each and every year.    As I said earlier, the much vaunted German model has led to Munich winning 8 straight league titles and basically the only time they were challenged they went in and bought the 3 best players from Dortmund. And Dortmund's business models seems to be pretty much buy young players, and sell them on. Rinse and repeat.
