He could be saying that the manner it happened was completely innocuous which is what annoys him.  I didn’t believe the version at the time but I think if they had decided to keep it in house for whatever reason and it somehow hadn’t come out then Hendo doesn’t strike as the type of person to be making veiled digs about it for people to read into.

It's not entirely unfeasible that Gomez himself may have requested it be kept quiet given the backlash he got from England fans over the scratch from sterling.

Each to their own but I think he's saying getting that serious an injury in training with no one else involved is a toughie. He's just had a microphone shoved under his nose immediately after one of our poorest performances in 3 seasons. If it was a studio interview, he may have used different words or clarified it.
