If Matip can't go, I don't see why you'd have to protect Williams. If you trust him in the Champions League, you can trust him in average league game.

Alisson; Trent, Matip, Gomez, Robbo; Thiago, Henderson, Gini; Salah, Mane, Firmino

That would be a relief.

That'll be the side. Phillips/Jones if Matip/Thiago aren't fit.

I think Williams is a better option than Philips, think the latter is just too slow. Antonio in particular can be a real handful.

Not going too far back for this one. The corresponding fixture between the teams back in February followed a familiar pattern to a lot of our games this year. We didn't play particularly well, we had some ropey moments at the back, but we faced up to the challenge and came through it to record a 3-2 win and keep our title charge going. Gini, Mo and Sadio got the goals in what turned out to be the last game of our unbeaten league run stretching back to the game at City the previous January.

Number one in the charts back then was the excellent 'Blinding Lights' by The Weeknd. In an era where the likes of Ed Sheeran and Drake can get to No1 by releasing any old shit, and punchable faces like Lewis Capaldi can have a successful music career, it helps that every now an again a song that is actually decent can get a run at the top.

We need our blinding lights to start hitting their stride properly. This season we've seen glimpses from our front 3 (and Jota) but not yet where they are all purring, effective and clinical at the same time. It would be nice if our centre back options could include Big Bird, and I'd love to see El Maestro be available and ready to show why he was such a coveted player. Our midfield would benefit from having a bit of creativity in there alongside the usual industry.

If Matip is available, Im sure Jurgen will play him rather than young Williams. The lad has done all expected of him but he hasnt been pitted against any decent players (cue west ham jokes!). And last night late on in the game, he completely misjudged a cross into our box like a school boy and despite his leap, it was still about 3 foot above his head.

I think Jota has earnt a starting place ahead of Bobby now, it's just whether Jurgen starts him ahead of Bobby seeing as he played the whole game last night.

Hendo is clearly being 'managed' at this point with his 45 minute game time. Hopefully he can take the full 90 or most of it against West Ham.

One thing that bugs me is this 3 subs in the PL. This is why the small time cunt clubs didnt want 5 subs to continue in the league. They knew with the games coming thick and fast, European and international football, clubs like us would get shitloads of injuries, even if they're just niggles. It levels the PL up for them and gives them greater chance of getting results. Bunch of cunts.

Fabinho and Gomez were bullied for large portions of the Sheff United game and before Fabinho's injury, that was our first choice partnership. Anyone we put out there will get bullied, except maybe Matip, but we don't know how fit he is. Might as well put Williams out there if Matip can't go.

Unfortunately i can see us lining up:

Alisson

Trent

Gomez

Henderson

Robertson

Wijnaldum

Milner

Jones

Salah

Mane

Firmino

Fabinho's absence felt keenly in both midfield and defence which for me is why we should have got another centre half in during the summer rather than relying on a midfielder to drop back there when we already have injury prone players in midfield.

Options wearing thin....Does anyone actually know for sure if Matip Thiago Naby are available? Every press/post game Klopp doesn't seem to be confident in saying so.

Back to 433 for this 1 as well please.

Alisson Trent R.Williams Gomez Robbo Wijnaldum Henderson Jones Salah Mane Jota

Antonio is likely to be ruled out. Small blessings and all that. Would playing trent in beside gomez be an option? Neville played plenty of times at centre back for united and he's tiny. We could play Milner at full back then. He'd at least be able to attack better with his natural foot.

That is something...wouldn't be experimenting too much. Neither Trent or Gomez are great in the air. Sheffield Utd exposed us a for a while on that one and if West Ham play Haller I could see them doing similar.

I think if need be Rhys Williams starts otherwise change as little as possible. Assuming Thiago is fit our possession/attacking stats should improve even more and if those up front click then hopefully they are so freaked about what we have going forward that the defence wont be under the cosh so much.

I think Firmino will start because he scored against Sheffield Utd, if he is dropped after scoring wouldn't makes sense. Klopp loves him and backs him to find form. 4-0

    • Caoimhin Kelleher has expressed his delight over his starring performance as Liverpool clinched qualification to the knockout stage after a 1-0 win against Ajax at Anfield on Wednesday night.   After Alisson was ruled out of the important fixture with a hamstring injury, Jurgen Klopp put his faith in the 22 year-old Irishman who had only made four senior appearances for the Reds in domestic cup games.   And the youngster certainly did not let his boss down as he showed maturity beyond his years commanding his area and making some critical saves including one from point blank range from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar in the last few minutes of regular time.   Speaking after the game to the Official site, Kelleher spoke about when he got the news that he was going to be the man between the posts and his general emotions after the 90 minutes of action.   “I found out yesterday, I got told by management and stuff. Then in the team shape we did, I was the starting goalie. I was excited when I found out and then just tried to focus on the game from there.   “I’m just over the moon really with how the whole night went for me and for the whole team to get the win and to qualify. Just delighted."     Kelleher, who recently floated the idea of going on loan in the new year to gain first team experience, recalled the moment he made his first save and that allowed him to be able to ease his nerves.   “It gives you more confidence that you can make them (saves) and it gave me confidence from there. Thankfully I was able to make a few others.   “I think the main thing tonight was to get the win and qualify. There's so many games in this hectic schedule that we just need to do our best. We've qualified tonight, so that was the main objective"   The Republic of Ireland youth international confirmed that fellow custodian Alisson had sent him a good luck message but he was incredibly heartened by the support of Adrian who would have been naturally disappointed to miss out on the call-up.   “I didn't see Ali yesterday because I think he was gone, but I got a text before the game just to tell me good luck. Adrian was a really great support. He told me, 'I'm with you 100 per cent and supporting you no matter what.' To get that from him was really kind of him.”   The gloveman said that he was also indebted for the support of his manager and says he will always be ready for any further opportunity that comes his way.   “It was a nice moment for him to come to me and to get an embrace. He just said it's fully deserved, so it was a nice moment for me.   “(In terms of more opportunities) That's all I can do. When I get my opportunity, I just need to take it. I think I've done well tonight, so hopefully I can push on and if I get another opportunity, just take it again.”

    • I think both Macca and Carra suffer from trying too hard to sound objective by being overly harsh/critical far too often.
    • Tsimikas dealt with Traore heroically last season in the EL, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts this one.
    • He was better tonight.   Still looks tentative too often with ball at his feet going forward and stops, checks and then passes it backwards too often....hopefully the ball he put in that we scored off will help his confidence and he starts to look to do more when he has it.
    • Brilliant game from Neco. Nice cross for the goal. He was definitely targeted with Tadic often drifting to his side, but he coped well. Happy for him.
