I still wouldn't bet against them attempting it. It's been clear I think for a long time that absolutely anything is possible with these buttons, the only thing that will stop them is if the rule of law can be maintained.

They are a major pillar of his support. The 15 or so percent of Republicans toward the center would be enough to render both of those groups useless.

The play Republicans decided on back when Reagan was elected was to hold the Senate, it is easier to get folks elected at that level for them and it represents an inordinate amount of power based on those seats. You can fuck anything off you don't like no matter who is POTUS and run roughshod over all if POTUS is a Republican. Which they have done. In the 50 years prior to Reagan they had control of the Senate for two years - since then it has been @ a 50/50 split for control.
