Baffling to say Nat hasn't done well at all.

Without him we'd have finished 6th/7th, he's made a massive contribution to us finishing 3rd, next season he'll rightly be 4th/5th choice but without him this season we wouldn't have been playing CL football next season.

And with him, fighting with absolute shite for 4th will be our level.

It's absolutely bonkets that people are suggesting playing viirgil with someone who makes maguire look like usuak. Bolt.  As of having one fast centre back is fine and the other will suddenly be able to hold a high line.

Id rather get back to being good than praising a donkey for sticking his head on the ball.  With any luck, people can watch Burnley if thats the standard of defenders they want to see next year.

The general consensus is that he should be 4th/5th choice which is completely fair.

To be dismissive of his performances this season is very harsh and unjustified, we were in a deep hole in which he had a massive part of getting us out of, that's not to say he deserves to be first choice next season as that's clearly not the case.

I am very thankful though for him this season, he's contributed massively and deserves some respect.

Its looking like we're going to sign Konate.

VVD - Gomez - Matip - Konate - Philips.

I'd be more than happy for Philips to stay as 4th or 5th choice but is it fair on him as the way Klopp picks his sides once VVD and Gomez are back he wont rotate them much at all.

Philips would hardly get any game time apart from the league cup can't see that being good for himself longterm.

The age old conundrum - squad player for a really good team or try your luck in a bottom dwelling side.

Lets be honest - taking the ball out of your own net 60 times a year can't be that much fun for a defender.

Could go Coady or Kelly this lark.

If he gets a decent bump in his wages may be better to stay.

And I thought he should leave a month ago.

Yeah, but Gomez and Matip will be injured for 75% of the season. Phillips would be an ever present.

Thats the point of signing Koante (Who I haven't seen btw but am assuming he's a fast paced CB & good on the ball)

Philips would be lucky to get much starts imo.

We need depth especially at centre half given question marks against players in that position.

Depth will allow us to have a better go at the cups and of course help us with rotation/dealing with injuries.

If Phillips wants to stay and be 4th/5th choice then i think he has shown enough to deserve that chance....but if he wants to leave to play regularly at a mid table/lower half side then fair do's to the lad.

He can hold his head up about what he has done this season with us, his limitations are obvious - but so are his strengths as well and those strengths could very well see him carve out a decent enough career playing in a side who defend deeper and don't ask centre halves to play high like we do and be progressive with ball at their feet.

He has done his best but we should still sell while his stock his high. He isnt good enough to be part of a squad that wins things.

Yep. Could turn into an Origi type situation we should have cashed in on him after the CL Final we didnt and now we'll get nothing for him.

Philips stock will never be higher than it is now.

We have at least half a dozen players that need fucking off before we even consider getting rid of Phillips.

And there is no reason at all that he couldn't be part of a squad that wins stuff. He wouldn't be starting every week, but to cover injuries, play in the domestic cups, and maybe be played alongside VVD against the proper ale house sides, he'd be more than capable.

konate has managed 24 games in all comps over the past 2 seasons. to put that in some perspective, that's just 4 more than matip. if 2/3/4th choice are gomez, matip and konate, i would bet phillips would have plenty of games again.

Our season was fucked by a terrible injury to VVD and our next two best centre halves being made of wet paper yet people are saying we should sell the one CB who has managed to help us salvage the season?  Clueless.
