Yeah, another vote for Smokey.

Although would only ever choose to listen to The Miracles (and the Spencer Davis Group, for that matter).

The 80s stuff, for both of them, was largely shite.

Smokey made some decent solo albums in the 70s, Quiet Storm is a favourite of mine.

Yeah, the mid 70s stuff was alright. Fair enough. I still prefer his stuff with The Miracles in the late 60s.

To be honest, I just despise that 80s sounds. In fact, these two artists are a great example. You can listen to two songs from the 60s. One from The Miracles and one from The Spencer Davis Group. Both fucking immense, and very different.

Then the two examples from the 80s in this thread. Not for me.

Agreed 100%

Being With You would've been 1,000 times better if it had been released in 1968 purely down to the production.

Fucksake another tough one, I generally agree about 80s stuff not being very good but I seen Winwood twice once in mid 80s and again in the late 90s and he was very good. Arc of a Diver had some cracking songs on it, the title track for one, 1980 that was.

Yet again though I can't help judging on their early 60s stuff. So a tentative vote goes to Smokey, You Really Got a Hold on Me.

I remember some bird fucked me off, and when in my first flat that Being With You came out so it reminds me of being pissed off even though its neither here or there,

.Smokey it is  Mickeys Monkey.
