Joyce now saying that Matip injury not as bad as first feared

FSG will be delighted, wallets probably now shut again

Close call that

The message from the club will be to calm things down and sound less serious than it is till the window is closed. It's interesting we're not being told about fabinho either aside from he won't play Sunday.

If we sign another player this window, then unless one or more of our existing players goes out on loan or is sold, someone has to drop out of the PL squad for the 2nd half of the season. The only other way around this is by signing a 'home grown' player under 21.

So who do we de register from the PL if we dont sell or loan someone out and the new CB isnt 'home grown'?

Maybe some will say Keita but you cant have a current high wage earner sat kicking their heels in the stand because we're over the squad limit.

Trouble is, we play with such a high line that we need someone mobile. If, however, they're not good at winning aerial duels, teams will lump it up to someone like Kane who'll just act as a pivot.

As a stop-gap, it might have to be someone like Phillips (wins headers, but moves like he's coming round from sedation), or a more mobile short arse.

Maddox saying they spoke to Leipzig

That just sounds like they are just setting up that they need to wait because they wont sell. Why would Liepzig sell us one of there best 2 CB when we play them in 2 weeks.

The only way we could get Upamecano is if we make an offer for more than his summer release clause which is about £40 million.

If he is one of our top summer targets then it could make sense for both clubs to do it now?

We could maybe throw in Keita as part of the deal?

Word is Bayern are the ones expected to get Upamecano, and he holds all the cards with his release clause.

Its all rumours but we seem more interested in his partner Ibrahima Konate, he has a release clause aswell. Think its 40ml but again unless you offer 60ml or 40ml and Keita or something silly why would they do it, they play us in 3 weeks and a place in the quarter finals of the champions league is at stake so why strengthen us

In the long run they might prefer that he goes to us rather than Bayern?

They would but what they want doesn't really matter.

He can just refuse a move and wait for Bayern in the summer if thats what he wants to do

For us it might mean a double whammy, we gain a centre back worth the fuss and weaken our next opposition in the CL.

For them it is gaining the fee, likely more than the fee, they might get for a player who could be coming to us anyway and, if they’re being pragmatic, knowing they don’t have much of a chance to progress in the competition even if they put us out.

Unlikely that a deal will be struck this late though.

Bit of a fucking short arse for a CB

5'9, cant see Klopp being that interested unless its a 4th choice back up RB role

Just saw Paul Moran saying he's a good right back and he plays there more than centre half, but plays cb a bit as well. Has won a Copa Libertadores and a few caps for Argentina, so I wonder if he is more a very decent understudy to Trent, which is good news.

Surely we wouldn't be forcing that type of deal though in this window though? We need someone who can genuinely play centre back. Although maybe if you've got Phillips doing all the heading an agile player next to him might be ok.
