January 2021 Transfer Thread

Act now or this season is a battle for top 4 and we aren't even assured of that.

We started two midfielders as our centre half pairing tonight - teams do not win titles with that being case regularly....and look at the other options - a championship level player, who was on his way out of club and a kid who spent last season playing non league.

It needs sorting.

We finished the game with three midfielders in our back four...

Sorry but the club have fucked this right up. We should have been planning for a big January transfer ever since we knew VVD was out for the season. We've literally had months to prepare and it looks like we've done nothing and what we get is the utter lunacy of having 2 midfielders as our centre back pairing. The club should take the view that neither VVD nor Gomez will play again this season, and that Matip will be available for less than half of our remaining games - if we're lucky. Take that view and buy a centre back this month, otherwise we can forget about the title and even the top 4 will be a struggle on our current, shitty form.

Basically make do and save money.

I mean this might be a knee-jerk reaction but after our last three games I'd rather struggle through the season with Henderson and Fabinho at centre back and use January to buy someone who can score some fucking goals.

You can always use more strikers, but we have to prioritize. We have one single CB left that we planned on playing this season.

Having our best midfielder in defence is starting to kill the rest of the team. Tonight was atrocious and if the club haven't planned to bring anyone in despite losing our two main CB pairing and the best defender in the world its just bonkers.

To think we can just get by and get on with it will not be the attitude of Klopp. He must be absolutely seething if the club have told him no money in January to buy a defender.

I honestly can’t see us buying anyone. He’s shown how stubborn  he can be when it comes to not making signings for the sake of it and he’s been proven right so far.

He said yesterday the clubs with no money don’t need any money and don’t have to sell and the ones we’ll be interested in will probably face us in the CL so they’ll be reluctant to sell too.

Massive extra premiums getting anyone out of a club now knowing we’re desperate. We fucked it last summer by not replacing lovren and gambling that Matip and Gomez would develop into Wolverine levels of recovery.

If I had a choice I’d go and get a striker and go on the front foot for the rest of the season. Even a short term arl arse like a Giroud who knows where the net is would be enough.

No money until sales.  Obvious as fuck cause to the yank scum 4th is good enough.

Pathetic they're wasting the best manager we've ever had.  Having him make do with three centre backs to get a back up left back.  No cover for our right back who's dead on his feet, no cover for our keeper.  Thankfully we finally got a 4th forward after literally years of playing complete shite there whilst cunts with red specs on told you it was ever so impossible to sign another forward.  Of course they then made him play a full strength team in a dead rubber game for money and that forward got fucked.

Fucked just like the rest of the squad is after being run into the ground for two years and it's all on the leach scum cunts that bought the club.

Jota is a huge loss. Aside from being really good, he's a massive option whether it's starting or off the bench. The front three and Trent are off kilter and he could be that spark.

United, Burnley, Everton and City at home, Leicester, Tottenham and West Ham away in the coming weeks. A few games (maybe all right now even the higher class version yard dogs of West Brom in Burnley) where we could drop points. With that run of games, you would nearly accept being 5 or 6 points off top if we were playing well and had a decent last few games. Beating City or United will be a 6 pointer.

This season feels like 90/91 where we had a good start and it unravelled. Thank God, next season should be better because this one has gone to shit since Palace.

Still think we have a solid chance of winning this league. None of the others are special. We just need to get over the Mancs and build a head of steam. I thought tonight would be that moment, so maybe it will be in two weeks.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has reportedly urged the club’s owners to complete a January deal for a Serie A centre-back.

The Reds have been tipped to bring in defensive reinforcements since both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez were ruled out long term. Klopp has hinted that he may dip into the market, particularly with Joel Matip also adding to his issues at the back. Indeed, the Reds boss opted to start Jordan Henderson alongside Fabinho at the heart of defence against Southampton on Monday night. And according to Tuttosport, as cited by SportWitness, Klopp wants to bring in Torino star Gleison Bremer this month.

Liverpool were first linked with the 23-year-old last week, along with Merseyside rivals Everton.

The player was also wanted by Fulham over the summer. However, his stock has risen since the start of the season. Bremer helped the Turin outfit secure just their second cleansheet of the season when they beat Parma 3-0 at the weekend.

The Brazilian has completed 90 minutes in 12 of Torino’s 15 Serie A games to date. The relegation battlers have, however, conceded the second-most goals in the Italian top-flight so far. Bremer joined Torino from Brazilian outfit Atletico Mineiro in the summer of 2018. The 6ft 2in powerhouse is regarded as a promising talent who would probably be a quick fix for Liverpool. The report adds that when the likes of Van Dijk and Gomez return, he would be used a rotational option.

John Terry almost joined Liverpool

John Terry spent a large chunk of his playing career in combat with Liverpool, yet it has now emerged that he was ready to agree to a transfer to Anfield.

Terry became Chelsea legend as he won a huge collection of trophies with the west London club. But former Liverpool coach Phil Thompson has revealed the centre-back was ready to move to Merseyside in 2003.

“In the final game of the 2002/03 season, it was a shoot-out between Liverpool and Chelsea for the last Champions League place,” Gerard Houllier’s former assistant Thompson told Paddy Power’s From The Horse’s Mouth podcast.

“This was just before Roman Abramovich came in (and bought Chelsea). We’d heard Chelsea were in dire straits, and they weren’t going to offer Frank Lampard or John Terry a contract.

“After the game, as Chelsea were doing a lap of honour, Gerard Houllier said to me that Terry was a bit of a player. I agreed, adding I didn’t think they’d offered him a contract.

“So Houllier went and shook John Terry’s hand and asked ‘how would you like to play for Liverpool?’ and John said: ‘I’d love to, Mr Houllier.’

“After, we sent one of our coaches into the players’ lounge and asked John for his agent’s phone number. John said: ‘I’ll do more than that, here’s my personal telephone number, ask him to give us a call’.

“A couple of weeks later, Abramovich took over, and his first dealings were signing Terry and Lampard to big contracts – so we were that far away from getting him.”

Terry, 40, is now assistant manager to Dean Smith at Aston Villa. He played for the club and retired in 2018 after joining from Chelsea in 2017. Terry made 717 appearances for Chelsea and won a Champions League title, five Premier League titles, five FA Cups, three League Cups, and the Europa League.

At least no one can moan that we didn’t replace Lovren
