This sounds pretty horrific.

DETECTIVES investigating the murders of a mother and her daughter have made two arrests.

The men, aged 51 and 56 and both from Burnley, were detained shortly after 7pm on Sunday.

Both were arrested on suspicion of two counts of murder, two counts of rape and one count of arson with intent to endanger life. They remain in police custody.

It comes after detectives issued a plea for information following the discovery of two bodies at a house in Reedley.

Officers were initially called at around 8.45am on Thursday (October 1st) to a report of concern for the safety of the occupants of an address on Colne Road.

When they arrived, the bodies of two females were found, as well as evidence of smoke and fire damage inside the address.

One of the victims has since been formally identified as Dr Saman Mir Sacharvi, aged 49. The body of the girl has yet to formally identified but is believed to be Dr Sacharvi’s daughter, 14-year-old Vian Mangrio, who was a pupil at Marsden Heights School in Nelson. The two lived together at the address.

A Home Office post-mortem yesterday (Saturday) revealed Dr Sacharvi died as a result of pressure to the neck. She had also suffered an assault.

Although the post-mortem investigation remains ongoing for Miss Mangrio, it can be confirmed she was found badly burnt inside the address.

Dr Sacharvi and Miss Mangrio’s next of kin are being supported by specially trained officers.

Det Supt Jon Holmes, Head of Major Crime at Lancashire Police, said: “We are on with a number of lines of enquiry and this evening we have made two arrests.

“However this is a live investigation and we continue to ask anyone with any information to get in touch with us. Perhaps you have been in the Colne Road area recently and have seen something suspicious. Maybe you have CCTV or dashcam footage which could contain something useful. Or perhaps you think you know who is responsible. Whatever information you have, we would urge you to get in touch, even if you think what you know is insignificant.

“Finally our thoughts remains with Dr Sacharvi and Miss Mangrio’s family and friends at this awful time and we send them our deepest condolences. We have a team of detectives dedicated to the investigation and we will leave no stone unturned.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police as soon as possible through the dedicated Major Incident Portal at

https://mipp.police.uk/operation/0401020119P01-PO1 or on 101, quoting log 0429 of October 3rd.

Alternatively independent charity Crimestoppers can be reached anonymously on 0800 555 111 or at crimestoppers-uk.org.

Before calling people abhorrent cunts, presuming their guilt, and ascribing motives to them. That sort of thing.

Oh right, I forgot a few of us we're on the jury. I was something yesterday about the 'honour' killing of Banaz Mahmoud and father and uncle were involved. Seems a smilier set of circumstances.

Good attempt at trying to gain some moral high-ground though you sanctimonious prick.

So whoever raped and murdered them isn't an abhorrent cunt? Strange bloke you.

I can't believe you of all people are accusing others of trying to take the moral high-ground.

Put your torch and pitchfork away, there's a good lad.

I'd enquire as which of my morals are questionable, but it's not really worth it, is it.

Regardless, I think "innocent until proven guilty" is a moral I am quite happy to stand by. Others can make up their own minds, as indeed they seem to have done.

I don't need to list them. You've posted your own book on here. (As we all have)

I too believe in innocent until proven guilty but as I'm not on the jury, I am posting on a football forum, I can make an assumption as I see fit. Like I said, I watched something about honour killings yesterday when a young girl was killed by her father and uncle. Maybe that had something to do with my judgement so I guess I accept your point they may well be innocent and it could have nothing to do with 'honour'.

The, posturing, hypocrisy and 'vain' attempt at trying to look morally superior though.... Get fucked.

Fucking unbelievable. What is wrong with people. I'm always amazed when horrible crimes are committed by more than one person. Surely one of you is saying that this is a bad idea. They are both now facing spending the rest of their lives on D wing, in a cell for 23 hours a day and having people piss/shit in your dinner.

Assuming they are tried and found guilty.

Yeah, look, the one thing I'm never going to do is claim moral superiority. Not least because I don't believe in objective morality.

You accept they may be innocent, and that is enough to satisfy me. Have a nice evening.

Grim. Some sort of 'honour' killing I expect then.

I’d not even got as far as adding the cultural dimension but if a woman and her daughter are killed in their own home the chances are it’s going to be due to domestic violence

There’s a good joke by a female comedian which is something along the lines that

“men are like handguns, you think they will protect you from the bad guys, but if you keep one in the house statistically you are more likely to be killed by it”

Those female comedians are absolutely fucking hilarious. Hopefully some bloke kills her before she can write anymore 'jokes'.
