Love both bands.

I'd probably edge with The Doors. A proper heavyweight band who transcended music into general pop culture. They arrived fully formed with a classic album and a handful of brilliant singles. Great live reputation. And in Jim Morrison have one of THE great rock and roll tales of excess and early death. He is the poster boy of the archetypal rock star.

I don't think they belong next to the best of the best (Beatles, Zep, Stones, Who, Floyd) but they're definitely in the group behind that. And they should trample The Byrds or CCR in the final (if they get there).

The answer is REM.

The amount of great songs are almost endless, when they tried to write a shite song about happy stuff that became a hit as well. I agree with REM though, I dont really like that song.

The Doors are most famous for Jim Morrison dying, REM all the way. If he had died later they would probably play Everybody Hurts at his funeral.
