Arsenal (H) League Cup - 1/10/20 - 19:45

That game last year in the League Cup had nearly everything. Goals galore, mistakes galore, Big Div with a stoppage time equaliser to make it 5-5, and then Curtis wrapping up the win in the shoot-out. It was unfortunate that the EFL had such poor scheduling, knowing that we were going to be away in Qatar in December from the moment we won the Champions League on June 1st. They had plenty of time to foresee a fixture clash, yet they faffed about and we ended up playing the Under-18s reserves in the quarter final at Aston Villa.

Anyway, the No1 in the charts throughout that period was the god-awful 'Dance Molnkey' by some stupid dickhead with a shit voice.

Us against the Gunners is a fairly frequent fixture in this competition. The first meeting was at Highbury back in 1968 but the first meeting at Anfield was on 7th February 1978. We won 2-1 with goals from Kenny and Ray Kennedy. We got to the final that year (League Cup finals were played home and away back then) where Nottingham Forest edged it. They won the league that year too, but we managed the 'consolation' of retaining our European Cup against Club Brugge at Wembley. Kenny got the all-important goal and we were still Kings of Europe.

Number 1 in the charts at the time was the superb 'Uptown Top Ranking' by Althea & Donna. Certainly one of the better finds of this year's thread theme. Top ranking we certainly were, both uptown AND downtown. Midtown and out-of-town too.

The cup tie on Thursday night will most likely see a similar line-up to the one that dispatched Lincoln in the last round. With a league game on Sunday night, we were always likely to rest a lot of first-teamers in the League Cup. We have the quality to binbag Arsenal once more, but the players have to show it, as well as being aware of Arsenal's spawny nature under Arteta. Just get the job done and let any future fixture congestion be an EFL issue to resolve. We can always throw in the teenagers again if need be.

Not arsed tonight’s game was the biggie yeah it would be nice to win this trophy again but with the way the fixtures are piling up in this condensed season the league and big ears are the main objectives for rme .

Nobody who started tonight’s game should be on the pitch Thursday

Not sure we can afford to do that and beat these

I think Virg and Gomez will do a half each.

I would play Milner at right back. Williams will be targeted and he has been poor defensively. If he genuinely is seen as back up he cannot have a crisis of confidence while learning the position. Give the lad a break and wait for an easier tie no need to expose him to arsenal who you know will have a 1st team player up against him probably Willian.

League Cup Finals were never played home and away, just the semi finals. In 1978 we lost to Forest in a replay at Old Trafford to a penalty where the foul was outside the box.

The first half dozen or so were played over two legs, then it went to a single Wembley game. But yeah, the Forest game was a replay, not a second leg.

I think Klopp will punt this game honestly, there's already going to be fixture congestion this season and I can't imagine the owners really give a flying fuck about the carabao cup. I want us to win every trophy we're in for but I expect I similar side to what we saw against Lincoln City. Could be enough to win but if Arsenal go for it maybe not.
