Perfectly Cast Movie Roles

Morgan Freeman as Ellis Boyd 'Red' Redding in Shawshank. Clearly as far removed from a red-headed Irish-American as it was possible to be, but he nails the performance showcasing wit and gravitas as the old-timer on the inside who can get things. Those little moments where his own institutionalisation rears its head are subtle but very clever. Quietly playing a note on the harmonica in his cell given to him by Andy. Laughing sadly as cellmates reminisce about the stunt Andy pulled to get everybody a beer for their hard work. The sense of awe and pride at Andy's 19-year-long game of patience. Looking around the field when he finds the money Andy left him. Knowing he can't piss a drop without asking for permission. Then he frees his mind by not worrying about his parole violation. And all done alongside superb narration with a voice made for the task. Great performance in a truly great film.

You need to sort that out. It's a great film.

Shaw lived his last few years a few miles away from where I live now in Tourmakeady.  I drive on the road where he had his fatal heart attack regularly. The locals loved him, he'd hold court in the pub and used to go behind the bar and serve himself and other customers. Leg.

Watching Hamish Macbeth get aggro was a revelation but I reckon he was outdone by Ewan Bremer. Spuds interview  and shitty morning wake up were superb

It's fair to say the whole thing was perfectly cast to be honest. An absolute masterpiece of a film.

Robert Shaw is basically brilliant in more or less everything I’ve saw him in.

Jaws, Pelham. The Sting, Battle of Britain  etc

He’s a bit of a scene steeler. Like Benicio Del Toro but better.

Yes he seems to be good in all his films I've seen him in, he was also in a make of The Birthday Party with Dandy Nicholas.

Great thread and some great shouts.

Connery as Bond in the early films.

McDowell in Clockwork Orange

Wayne in The Searchers and almost every other Western he did

Caine and Baker in Zulu.

Benny Hill in the Italian Job...
