Yeah there is that Comrade, but Ali was inspired by Gorgeous George the wrestler and you yourself were inspired by Shakin' Stevens, so it's not always the case where the driving force is better than the replica.

I take your point comrade, I'm not saying The Beach Boys were toss, far from it. And I know it's subjective, but I just can't get past the fact that they were good old boy, clean cut Republicans (you're going to link me up to them being Communists now aren't you?) doing fucking good vibrations/surfin USA 60's Californian Wham music. The Beatles and The Doors were socially and politically subversive bands.

I don't know much about their personal lives to be honest, Dennis was a womaniser & an alcoholic though & there's all the stuff about Brian being mentally ill. Some of their late 60s/early 70s stuff was also very ahead of the curve in terms of environmental awareness. I'm not the best person to ask about lyrics though, I never listen to them.

FWIW I don't think The Beach Boys are in the same league as The Beatles, I do love them both though.

Yeah but 'Mook and the adidasler four stripes' doing a cover of 'Green Door'. Shambolic scenes all over the scheme.

Aye, it was Brian’s mental illness that kaiboshed “ Smiley Smile” when his competition with McCartney was at its fiercest . Massive shame that.

I remember reading that he used to compose with his feet in a sandbox around that time, trying to get inspiration as he was succumbing to mental illness.

Mike Love is a cunt though. Look at their Rock and Roll hall of fame acceptance speech. The way he adjusts the microphone when Brian Wilson is speaking, his whole demeanour is horrible. And the state of his speech, don’t think I’ve ever cringed so much in my life.

Watch to very end though, Elton John has him off there.
