Our wage bill

After finding it incredible that Man City would have a lower wage bill than us and seeing various discussions that our wages cant be that high, I thought while I had nothing better to do for 10 minutes, Id have a look at what the estimates say.

GK

Allison - £100k pwk - £5.2m

Adrian - £30k pwk - £1.56m

Karius - £40k pwk - £2.08m

Def

VVD - £180k pwk - £9.36m

Matip - £120k pwk - £6.24m

Gomez - £35k pwk - £1.82m

Trent - £50k pwk - £2.6m

Robbo £60k pwk - £3.12m

Tsimikas - £50k pwk -£2.6m

Neco - £15k pwk - £780k

Mids

Hendo - £100k pwk - £5.2m

Fab - £100k pwk - £5.2m

Naby - £120k pwk - £6.24m

Milner - £90k pwk - £4.68m

Ox - £90k pwk - £4.68m

Gini - £70k pwk - £3.64m

Curtis - £20k pwk - £1.56m

Fwds

Mo - £200k pwk - £10,4m

RF - £180K pwk - £9.36M

SM - £150K pwk - £7.8m

Shaq - £100k pwk - £5.2m

Divock - £45k pwk - £2.34m

Minamino - £60k pwk - £3.12m

Brewster - £30k pwk - £1.56m

Total - £106.5m pa

I reckon Jurgen must be on £10m and the coaching staff prob £3m between them so at a rough guess £120m pa for the 1st team squad.

The Echo said the players pool for winning the league was £4m and the high profile players who signed recent upgraded contracts would have pocketed between £500 - £750k bonus which would have been covered by the sponsorship bonus payouts.

Now considering were paying £274m in wages before pension and NI, theres a lot of people earning some serious wedge from us.

Ill open this up to the floor

As per the other thread, the only thing that makes any sense to me if something like agent fees or player amortisation is included in that 276m. Our player amortisation was £111m on the last accounts. Up by 34m on the previous year. Interestingly in the same period wages rose by £46m.

In that period, we extended the contracts of Salah, Firmino, Harry Wilson, Robertson and TAA (this was listed in the accounts) - would it seem more likely that these players shared a wage increase of £12m per year or £46m per year? If your money is on the former, it seems pretty likely to me we arrive at the 276m wage bill to include player amortisation.

I actually don't think it's a bad way to calculate it for accounts, but for ffp purposes, I don't think that's how you do it - and I certainly don't think that's how the likes of city are declaring their wage bill.

I don't think anyone believes that. The point is that until recently that was how it was being reported based on club accounts.

City are paying their players a lot more than we are but most of it won't go through the books as it'll no doubt be done via "image rights" or "private sponsorship" deals paid for by Abu Dhabi.

Like how they were paying Mancini £2m a year, but he was getting £10m a year as a special 'advisor' to the Sheikh's club back home.

Totally agree Dave but Id say some do believe our wage bill is higher than theirs and ignore the 'methods' you mention.

I think some  of those figures look a bit light e.g. Hendo, Mane and the younger players and I suspect bonuses, pensions, NI etc will add quite a bit. Then you've got all the players on loan where we still pick up part of the bill, the academy players and staff, office staff, stewards, directors etc. But I still struggle to get much higher than £200m.

i didn't think amortisation is included but maybe it is these days.

I didn’t believe it

Fair enough.

As for what others believe, Ive no doubt the club's accountants use perfectly good accounting practices regarding profit and minimise losses etc. Until someone uncovers clear accounting malpractice, I think the idea money's being diverted to the red sox, yacht buying and the rest is dubious to say the least.
