The substitution was mental.  Bring on a specialist penalty taker or an experienced player.  Don’t bring on a kid who isn’t going to get a touch of the ball before he steps up to take a pen.  I don’t care how many he’s banging in in training from the spot it’s completely different to stepping up in game like that.

I'd like to not be arsed about this but I'm worried we're gonna be too predictable if we don't get some different attacking options in the squad.

This game aside, there were enough signs in the performances last season to easily predict that after winning the title and a dip in motivation, we may be a pretty decent amount worse this season. Without a Thiago coming in, someone with significant quality, it feels like we'll toil more.

Didnt see most of the 2nd half, went out for a run.

Achterburg excelled himself on coaching the keeper on arsenal's penalty takers.

This isnt on the Walk of Champions for a reason.

Usual suspects going on about Williams and a 'drop off' from Trent. Yeah, when you have world class players in positions guess what? You're going to have a drop off when those players are missing.

It's always the same with these people, "We're not asking for £80m players, we just want decent back ups." Then when the back up plays, he aint good enough and "we want someone for £30m instead," blah, blah, fucking blah.

For me it’s less about a drop-off and someone who just doesn’t look quite ready. I think Williams is closer to the latter, but we’ll see - I don’t think it will have gone unnoticed that we looked better all round when he and Milner were replaced though.

I’m with you on the idea that of ridiculous, Sancho-esque signings, but completely failing to freshen up the squad would be a mistake. If the Thiago interest is genuine and not a media trifle, quibbling over 5-10m would be an absurdity.

Penalties are as much about confidence as anything. If he was asking to come on to take on then leave him at it.

Would have preferred to win it. But, it's not a huge miss not to. Some good signs. Minamino looked decent. Mané's still boss. As is Robertson. And Gomez had a good game too. We created chances and got more competitive minutes in the legs.

Negatives were Williams still looking a bit raw. And Keita was relatively poor when he came on. He tried to be a bit more progressive with the ball than the rest of the midfield, but he gave it away a fair bit. We can't really knock a Champions League and domestic league winning midfield, but I still think we need someone with a bit more creativity, as an option.

Fuck off now with your common sense. Its supposed to be hysterical fannyitis city in here at the moment

Penalty kick was his first touch , mental. Big psychological blunder by the staff I would say!

Sleeve sponsors pay about 5m a year ... we seem to still be without one.

Weird for a club regularly pleading poverty and who are champions...surely we must have something lined up?

Werner at 50 million and 200k per week is probably a decent deal . For us it he  was an essential addition to the squad and I don't care if any of our front three would have their noses out of joint at his wages. Where are all the 10,20,20 million quid 50k per week alternatives ? I am a klopp superfan but what he did to williams and Brewster was rank poor man management.

Actually seems our rivals make more than 5.

With Arsenal (£10m), Chelsea (£10m) and United (£15-20m) all reportedly earning more than the Reds for their sleeve sponsors

What has he done to Williams? I feel like people talk about the guy like he's 12 years old and needs to be wrapped in cotton wool. He's getting a chance to play a few games and be a backup, not exactly a big workload.
