The Kinks started strongly, but as always, it turns out Zeppelin were only pacing themselves, as veterans of long distance races, used to taking a breather or a short nap during solos.

It is Zeppelin by quite a length - they are over the hills and far away from the Kinks on any scale. If this gets close I am making a phone call to my pal Rick.

I thought Led Zep's first two albums were great but I didn't have much interest in them after that as they got a bit full of themselves and went downhill in my opinion. I reckoned they'd lost that freshness. Never listen to them now although I agree they were massively influential.

 

I still love listening to The Kinks though so they've got my vote.

To be fair I do like the Kinks and they did some great songs but I think even Ray would agree he was no Robert Plant.

That's a send up though, as was my insult.

 

As for Plant's vocals on the early Led Zeppelin albums, if you don't like high pitched vocals, then you're not really going to like those albums. To each his own & all that.

III is my favourite Led Zeppelin album by a good bit. Out of the first four that is anyway, I'm not overly familiar with the others.
